TJC parents, can anyone help me understand the following about the third language choice?
-I received a letter saying my son is eligible for third language - there are 4 choices - chinese, Malay, Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Though I love the idea of my kid learning a third language, I would like to understand if there is any other advantage other than learning a new language?
-I enquired at the school, they say it is not offered in the school, and the kids have to commute to other locations to study the same, would be great if someone can share their experience in this regard
-I am also concerned whether this would interfere with other activities in school, especially related to math since my kid has DSAed through math
-It is mentioned in the letter the third language will be a examinable subject in the O level exam, what does this mean for the IP kids? -
Hi,
Taking a 3rd language means they will take the O-level exam for the subject during year 4. Other subjects will be taken in year 6 during the A-levels.
Whatโs the profile of you sonโs to DSA into TJC via Maths? Can share? -

1) your DSA Maths commitment level.

You can call up TJC or write an email,
ask (address) to speak to VP (Academic) or Head of DSA interview panel,
ask VP :-
for this year 2022, which weekday(s) from Mon-Fri every week, Sec 1 students need to stay back after school, to join in the DSA Maths activities ?
Assuming that say, is assigned weekday X, then, clarify with VP :-
is this weekday X fixed throughout the whole year from Term 1 to Term 4, or different Term, change to another different weekday ?
Why, need to know?
Because
u won't want to clash your Cca days with this DSA Maths activities' meetings.
2) learning an Asian language (Chinese / Malay / Bahasa / Arabic).
Find out,
which weekday,
does your son need to go down to MOELC, to study Bahasa or Malay, assuming that he is going to learn either language?
Then,
is it to MOELC (Bishan or Newton) venue, to learn Malay,
since u mentioned that Malay is not conducted in-house, inside TJC premises (school compound) ?
3) sitting for O-level (Asian language), at end of Sec 4.
Come to end of Year 4 (IP) in November,
all students need to take O-level (Malay), if your son is learning Malay.
Taking the O-level (Asian language) paper happen to all other Secondary schools as well,
for those who are an learning Asian language. This is a common practice, nothing new.
4) for initial first 6 months of Sec 1,
will be \"relaxed\" honeymoon period, as students try to adjust to Secondary school life.
Sec 2 : pace will quicken.
End of Sec 2 : time to choose your Sec 3 subject combination.
Time management is crucial, especially In Upper Sec, because you are handling 8 or 9 subjects, plus their projects' dateline, concurrently.
5) Although u have entered TJC (IP) via the DSA (Mathematics) path,
u may also ask VP (Academic) :-
for Science -
how is the Talent Development programme like, for IP students ?
VP will explain to you,
what are the opportunities opened (available) for students, in Lower Sec and in the Upper Sec track.
(you may leave behind your contact phone number with the Admin staff in General office, ask Admin to convey a message, for the VP to call u back) -

They did math olympiad training, he enjoyed that. He also mentioned something about game theory, but I cant remember exactly whether it was part of Temasek Academy program haha. Generelly for me it seems to keep him busy, engaged properly. Today he received invitation to join Temasek Academy Science also, he will join the program in the upcoming year. As for the IP program itself, it is quite faced paced, so it fits him well.

Hi parents, my child will be joining the school next year. We are happy and excited.
I would like to know how is the academic pace like? And whether you as parents do come in to monitor and guide your child (aka how hands on are you)?
I am asking this as I hear some stories about IP being very intensive and fast paced. So I thought to hear from experienced parents ๐. Thanks!!!
