All About Life Without Maids

After more than a week without a full time maid, I’m starting to feel the strain on my mind and body. Now that I have to take care of all of DD’s physical needs (like bathing, washing her clothes, cooking and feeding her etc), on top of endless household chores, I realise I have neglected her emotional and intellectual needs cos too tired to play with, read to or teach her like I used to…wonder if I should go back to hiring a full-time maid again?
Part-time maid can only help to a certain extent, but the daily chores are taking too much of my precious time away for my DD. Sometimes I really wish I can be a supermum like some of the mummies here without maids. How did they do it? -

Hi Angelight, if bb skin got reaction, you would have seen it already - red/blotchy. it's bb detergent, still ok. Plus I'm sure you rinsed it off very fast. Don't worry lah...bbies are more resilient than we think.
Am abit worried about my child bathed with the baby laundry detergent...will there be any adverse effect? Anyone can enlighten me? -

y not get a PT maid to do the heavy cleaning like general cleaning, toilets, windows and the weekly ironing? then u only need to focus on the laundry (every alternate day) n cooking n light sweeping n mopping every 2-3 days? then u'll have more time for dd. of course hse not as clean as with a FT maid but i tink good enough given the peace of mind w/o a stranger in the house.After more than a week without a full time maid, I'm starting to feel the strain on my mind and body. Just release a maid from hell. Yes, I agree with Mummabear that it can be abit tough without a maid cos I have to do all the housework myself and cook and look after my DD at the same time. I may be stressed, but its a different kind of stress.
But I strongly believe that its better not to have a maid than to have a terrible maid from hell!
I'm really scared of getting a new maid now, just gotta manage my time well and do everything myself. If really cannot manage, then may consider part time help.
When my first maid left, I was almost going to
because she looked after my daughter since birth and cooked all our favourite food.
After the 4th maid, I got so fed up after returning her to the agency that I just didnt want any more maids. I threw away the maid's mattress and do up my daughter's room over the next few months. Now I value my privacy more than anything. Although my flat isn't sparkling clean, the satisfaction of cleaning my house is priceless. I don't have to put up with maid's black face or her attitude prob. When we go out, I don't have to buy an extra share of food for a maid who doesn't appreciate.
totally agree with you, Privacy above all! and my place is not sparkling clean too.
I look for ways to help myself. eg, shower all my 3 children together after school, cook and do cleaning when they nap. Entertain them when they are awake. Make them hv early dinner so when hubby is back, he will take DD and i will take the twins on activities.
Its not easy, but everything is possible.

yes, I got a PT help to come in once a week to do the heavy chores, but guess not a long term solution cos PT maid can only do so much. Plus DD is still very young, need someone to attend to her every need. So the only free time I have now is the 2-3 hrs nap she took in the afternoon, during which I have to do house work, my own stuff and if I'm lucky, take 40 winks before DD wakes up and calls for Mama again.
And yes, I agree with u that without a FT maid, there is alot more privacy and freedom and peace of mind. I am not accountable for another person and don't have to worry whether my maid will run away, get pregnant, mix with the wrong company etc etc...
That said, DH has been telling me to get a FT maid, seeing that I'm so tired at the end of the day. But me really scared now...will the next maid turn out to be good and trustworthy?

I’m new here.
I had my baby last year and was a SAHM for a year before returning to work 3 weeks ago.
It was a luxury not to have worked for a year and a privilege to be with my daughter for 8 months.
Now I’m a FTWM, we stay with PILs.
We have a PT maid who comes in everyday to clean, do laundry and ironing. My MIL takes care of my daughter and cooks. My MIL is requesting for a FT maid.
Personally, I’d much prefer not working, doing housework and looking after my daughter than engage a FT maid.
Any advice? Thanks in advance. -

Yes, its indeed a privilege to be with our children before they grow up. Several years ago, I stopped work for a year to stay home & looked after my eldest but went back to work for another 2 years before becoming a SAHM again till today. It had already been 5 years since then. I have 4 children with a maid to help me. Although my maid is good , I would still prefer to be without one if I can. When I had only my eldest, I had a part time helper who came in twice a week to help. I looked after my eldest plus cooking. Its very manageable & I prefer to instill in my child certain habbits eg: no unhealthy snacks, soft drinks, expose them to all types of fruits & vege, good eating habits i(ie eat at table) etc. Some of the maid horror stories here and in tamarind’s blog are really scary. Even with 4 kids & no ILs with us, I am contemplating if I can handle without a FT maid when she goes back. Can I check how much you pay for your PT helper to come in every day & how long does she stay each time?

I loved and would love to be a SAHM again.
My PT maid gets paid $200 every two weeks and I intend to give her a nice angpow during CNY, should she stay that long with us.
As for DD's clothes, bottles, bowls and bedsheets, I still clean and sterilise (if need be) everything on my own. I don't think that will change regardless of whether we have a PT of FT maid.
So after putting in 10 or more hours at work, I go home to be DD's PT maid
No complaints, she's my one and only. -

She was recommended by our neighbor. She was confinement lady to our neighbor's daughter.
Things are not super clean nor organized. But at least housework gets done and it frees up my MIL's hands and time to fully concentrate on DD.
I'm very thankful to both our PT maid and my MIL.
