All About Full-Time Maids

hi pinkycheeks,
Sorry to hear about your case, but I think the only thing you can do is to call MOM and hound them for updates. Go meet your MP and see if they can write any letter to assist.
Embassy will want to ‘protect’ their countryman and is not likely to release her unless she say she wants to leave.
It’s very important to establish your innocence in the matter regarding working in 2 house and helping out in the kuih business. I heard of a maid who, on her own requested to help out in dressmaking biz of employer, and then turn around to claim that she was forced into it. The employer kena of course…even if employer was not at fault. problem is that there is no witness and even if maid was willing - cannot do it means cannot. So even if your future maid say they want to help, tell her to stay off…you don’t know if these are angels or serpents.
This case may be under investigation - I’m not sure if you can even cancel her work permit. Note that at the end of the day, if R wants to go home, you will have to bear the costs of sending her back - even if she had not paid off her loan with you. -
btw my previous maid just found a new employer too. congrats to her.
heard the new employer is a first time local employer who hasnt even taken MOM certs course yet. guess she does not have much experience handling maid and so may not be awared of the handphone issue.
anyway will see if they work out. well maybe there are some employers do not mind maid talking over the phone all the time....shine_fs:
Congrats to you.... :celebrate:liuhao:
my new maid just arrived yesterday, very new, very fresh, appeared to be very nervous all the time. hehe...although i strongly believe fear is a good thing comparing to those who is fearless like my previous maid.
one thing i notice is although she is even younger than my previous maid, she is much more mature and considerate, possibly because she is married with one child. i can feel that she is trying to figure out what we like and dislike all the time. for my previous maid, who is a single, she seemed to live in her own world all the time and didnt bother to talk/understand us at all. most of the time she expected us to understand her and treat her like a doll/pet.
i give her a sunshine phone card for her to call home. she only talked 5 mins over the phone to her husband and thats all.
in agent office she said she has no handphone. after come back home and i showed her the house rule (no handphone, no secret handphone), she admit she had a handphone and surrendered it to me. so for now, i keep the phone for her. my wife also checked her belongings, she showed us everything but kept a tiny bag always from us. my wife said there is few packet of sanitary pad inside and not sure about rest. but think that is ok for us.
so far so good, not sure if because of she is new or personality, she is so much more obedient than my previous maid. my previous maid just walked around in the house like nobody's business in the first day.
i remember once i asked my previous maid that how long she planned to work in SG. she replied \"my contract is two years sir!\" with her back facing me. i asked the same question to this new maid and she said \"as long as you want me in the house\", with a smile in the face. what a difference! -

Will you pay $300-$400 for agency fee? One agency I enquired actually charges that amount, while others I know charges around $88-$200. What is the regulated market rate? Why is the difference so great? Hope someone can enlighten me. Many thanks!
Hi Hi!
I dug out the receipt from my maid agency and saw that I paid S$488 for the maid \"package\", whatever that is. I did not call any other agency hence I do not know what are the other charges and differences. Perhaps you can ask in further details like do they allow for maid changes (& how many times) within a certain period of time?

I encountered the same thing, but is with my previous Filipina maid. She told the embassy that we ill-treated her (never give her enough food and rest).
My husband called up the embassy direct and spoke to them. Then we arranged to take her luggage there (her luggage was still with us as we have not sent it down to the maid agency yet).
When we arrived at the embassy, the staff was very friendly and sat down with us to chat and find out what happened exactly. Yes, they try to protect their own countrymen but they were fair to us also.
My husband and I produced evidence of her theft (the reason we sent her back to agency) and when we passed her passport back to the staff of the embassy, she was shocked. In her passport photo, she looked so slim and haggard, but in real person, after 6mths working for us, she put on alot of weight and looked so radiant.
I do not ill treat my maids and those who know me well enough know that I treat my maids like family. One of the evidence we handed over to the embassy was my maid’s personal diary. In it, she wrote that we treated her very well, like family and she feels bad stealing from us.
The embassy sent her home quickly, fearing we would make a police report on the theft. We did write in to MOM to ‘blacklist’ that maid, but they said it can’t be done (like don’t allow the maid to enter SG again). What they can do is to put on the maid’s record so if she comes back again, future employers can check online and see her records.
I suggest you call up the embassy to find out what is going on. -
Anyone hired maids from TM Global and HR Consultancy maid agency? Do they provide good service? This is the first time I’m using their service, so would like to ask around.
May be getting a Myanmar maid from them, my friend told me that Myanmarese maid more teachable than Indonesian and Filippino maids. Is it true? Any mummies got experience to share? -

I guess if u have to take a burmese and shes fresh, most likely u will encounter a language problem. Dnt expect them to know as much as the Indons and filipinas when they come in, they tend to lack initiative and common sense and are kind of slow. The good thing is u can grooom her the way u want and eventually she will know what is expected of her..Anyone hired maids from TM Global and HR Consultancy maid agency? Do they provide good service? I think it will be wiser to employ a Christian burmese, they are brought up better and know some english. Oh btw, dnt trust the biodata when they state that their english is good. -
hi mommies,
Wish to seek some advice here.
My new Indo maid of 2 weeks (with home country experience) last night said she wanted to change employer. But this morning retracted saying that she does not want pay another 2 months of salary if going back to agen to change employer.
This is the 1st time I have encountered such a case. Have employed 3 maids before her, all completed contract with me. This latest maid has the easiest life per se as I have made all my household duties so simple that I can just put my only child in student care (P1) if presented with maid issues. My mom whom is staying with me nowadays also "bo-chap" the maid afte she read about the many maid horror stories.
Yet this maid give me such a crappy stuff. When she first came & I checked her luggage, she has much more toiletries and beauty stuff than me !! She will find every sinle chance to sit down & no initiative to help out. When I go home after work with bags of groceries, she will just sit inside her room & treat me as invisible. During her 3rd day with me she asked about any possible relaxation of off-day !!
Apparently she knows about all the ground rules: no off-day, no hp, if go back to agent employer need to top up 2 more monhs of loan, but yet she go ahead and say wants to change employer last night. But this morning said she wanted to work again & looked quite sincere !!!
My options are:
1. Send her back to agent, look for another replacement. But need to train all over again, but can be for better or worse.
2. Student care: My girl is in pm session, needs to reach student care latest by 8am which means she needs to wake up around 7.20am to wash up & take LRT. Worried that she might be too tired as after school she will only reach home around 7.15pm in the evening. Right now she does assessment given by me in the morning without much distraction. At student care centre there might be too much distraction.
if you were me, will you give this maid a second chance? What are the kind of ground rules to set? I did give her timetable & house rules right from the start. But still…
Apologies on the long post…Hope to pick your brains on this.
Thank.
Rgds,

sorry could not suggest you what to do but currently i am having similar issue…
my new fil maid( 24 married with one yr old son) has been staying with us for 1 week. issues (similar as yours) so far:
- agreed during interview and first day in agent office that no hp is allowed as stated in house rule and she said she had no hp. however after arrived in our house and checked her belongings, found a secret handphone with sim card. i took the hp and kept it for now. but i am not happy. she is dishonest in the first day!
- yesterday evening (7th day), she asked me whether can have her hp. i was quite angry and told her it’s not allowed. i told her that you can go ahead to find another employer if you want but here in my home, hp is not allowed. she acted blur and after a while, asked me again for the hp to sms. it really made me mad.
- spent lots of time grooming herself. everytime we asked her to go out with us to do casual marketing, we wait for her for so long at door step but found she went to have shower and change new clothes! we wait for her for 15 mins before she gets ready. told her twice dont do that but still she will go showering everytime! my previous two maids never did that!
- acting blur all the time. most of the time when i say sometime to her, i never know if she really understand me or not. no feedback/reply/acknowledge. i have been trying to speak really slow, clear and loud.
- missing home all the time, everyday wants to call home. finished one sunshine phonecard within 3 days (50mins). today asked me to buy another for her. she will pay by herself though. although so far not affect her work yet…
contract says i cant send her back util 14 days. she does not make big mistake apart from these issues but so far i am not very comfortable. still dont know what to do yet.
but if i send her back to againt due to above reasons, who will pay the transfer fee? -

Call the agent and tell her the maid want to transfer. At the same time choose your new maid.hi mommies,

I will not give second chance cos they will change their mind again. So, don't waste your time giving her chances. -
Agree with shine_fs, that the expeditious thing is to look for a replacement maid asap.
My understanding and experience so far is that first few weeks the maid should be very eager to work/learn and show initiative. If they already show attitude or lack of initiative problem during the first weeks, it’s only likely to get worse.
So far, my 2 maids were very hardworking in the initial months. It is only after some months/years of working that they start to slack.
Rules are not meant to be broken. If one gives in on the hp part, then very soon, they will start asking about offday (for those families who don’t grant that).
As for phone cards, yes, they will pay for it themselves. Just bear in mind that this may escalate. My relative’s ex-maid had 3 hps and was on the phone constantly. Her salary obviously wasn’t enough to support that calling activity and she was dipping her hands into the employer’s handbag for $50s note and more.
