[Clementi] BASC
-
I have a new student who is currently attending Little Professors @ Clementi. He has sensory processing difficulties, ie he is quite active (or restless) and he can be quite hot-tempered. When he is angry, he can be aggressive verbally and can get physical.
The children are confined to a room by grade. They eat, sleep and study on the same table. On a hot day, life can be quite unbearable.
Staff
His teacher doesn’t like him & often hits him on his arm. This week, she announced his condition to the whole class in a derogatory manner.
His older sibling who also attends the same centre witnessed a few events. He feels that the teacher doesn’t act in a professional manner. eg this week, another boy played with my student’s stationery. The teacher confiscated the stationery & refused to listen to any explanation. When my student tried his best to explain (as calmly as he could) & get his things back, she slapped him on his arm. That triggered an outburst naturally.
On another occasion (quite some time ago), my student was arguing with a teacher. He pulled the teacher’s sleeve & somehow it tore. The teacher promptly pressed his head to the floor and held it there. Many kids who witnessed the incident were traumatised & cried. The teacher was later sacked (hopefully not transferred to another centre)
The centre manager doesn’t seem to be concerned or is genuinely unaware that his staff manages the students (not just my student) by yelling and hitting them on arms. No action has been taken so far against the teacher but plenty of warnings have been issued against my student.
I feel that the teacher’s behaviour is exacerbating my student’s behaviour. He does not get in that kind trouble in his primary school class. At the student care, it is true that he has acted in a dangerous manner on 3-5 occasions. He often challenges teachers’ authorities at the centre.
I have seen my student for 4 sessions. What I have observed is he is often unable to keep his cool with peers but is generally compliant when an adult is around to guide his behaviour. He does not have autism. His sibling and mother feel that he has tried to show restraint (not to getting angry at what he perceives as unfair treatment). -
Oh dear, that is a bad teacher!! Perhaps the parent should withdraw the child from the sch to a more understanding and nurturing environment

Thks, I have also advised the parent to do so. She has started looking for another studentcare centre.

there aren’t many BASC at Clementi… most students go to the one at Clementi central opposite Clementi Primary school run by Little Professors… so not many to choose from…

Anyone been to My Learning Loft at Blk 443, Clementi Ave 3? Seems new…

For parents who are interested in student care and, at the same time, providing tuition and coaching aspects to the session, I would recommend MindSpace. We believe the one at West Coast Plaza is really professional, sustainable, and resilient. Good owner, centre director, management, and teaching staff. Feel free to contact me at 96579738. There is also a referral program that would benefit both the referrer and the referee. Hope to hear from you soon.
