This verbal offer thing only applies to Sports? Or across all domains ?
Also, at this juncture, would it be safe to assume results will come in the form of emails / snail mails rather than phone calls (like when calling for trials/interviews)?

Challenge is when your first choice school offers you a WL and your second choice school offers you a CO. If you tell the second choice school (verbal offer) that you would still rank the first choice WL above their CO, would they still offer the CO to you rather than giving it to the next in line?
If u were given a verbal offer then it would be best to let the sch know that u are not accepting, before they send out the official one. So that they can still offer to the next in line for their sport. If u only inform them after the official offer is out. They can't do much about it already. The slot will go to their general sch pool when u reject officially in the system and may go to other domains and deprive their sport of a slot.
That's also why I think some were advising earlier, not to tell the verbal offer sch that u will confirm accept if u eventually won't be accepting because the 'industry' is small.. N ur kid may come across the sch, coaches or teachers at some point
So perhaps some consideration for u on when to release the slot vs how much time to give ur kid to consider also.. I wld assume all of us n our kids already have our own ranking of the schs we applied to

Thanks for the input! Looks like I really need to have a serious talk with my DS after prelims and decide soon. To be fair, I did not say that I will confirm accept the CO nor did the coach ask me if I will put the school as 1st choice. So if for example I turn down the school before 11 Sept but after they send out official email, they can still change the WL offer to CO for another kid? -
If you turn down before days before 11/9 , the school has time to issue an additional co to the next kid in line and will his/her day and take the pressure off them( child and parents) . But, if it’s done after, the poor child will have to keep thinking if the WL will convert until November when he/she collects the psle results.

But I had presume that the official Co is also submitted to Moe.. Not sure if it matters if its way before 11 Sep or just on 11 Sep

True Coolsotongmom.. That situation is tough and may have no choice but to hold onto the CO because doesn't make sense to forfeit when WL is a huge risk.. But in the case of 2 CO then I think most wld already have a pref or decision

In our case, we have told NJC not going for the interview. Hopefully, that helps and hope this gives next person in line a better chance …
