We did our sums and concluded that buying makes more sense. Renting is as good as giving our money away. Among all the schools within this area, Pei Hwa has a higher success rate for those living within 1km compared to Nanyang, ACS, etc. The properties around Pei Hwa also cheaper.Hi Funz,
I understand your frustrations. For some schools like Nanyang, MGS, Southview, even 1km have to ballot. That is very frustrating :frustrated:
Property prices are so expensive now, even moving house is another headache. Your child is '05 right ? I have a friend who moved within 1km to Pei Hwa too. Have you thought of renting first ? -
Funz,
In my case, son is the older one while daughter is due for P1 registration next mth.
I foresee my son accusing us of being biased by sending them to different schools one day.
The primary school which hubby attended has closed down and we happen to stay within 1km of Pei Hwa. Hubby thought of sending son there just in case we have a #2 and happens to be a girl. Well, #2 did arrive and is a girl. But I am former student of CHIJ TP, so we did have several discussions regarding the primary school for #2.
In the end, hubby wants her to attend my former school bcos it has affiliated sec school which Pei Hwa doesn’t have. -

That's true. Since your daughter is in RGPS, it's wiser not to move too far away as she will have CCA and extra classes in upper primary. If you're looking at buying another place, do make sure that that location is preferably within 1km of Pei Hwa. Some blocks within the SAME condo around here are within 1km, while another can be out of that critical 1km.

All papas think alike
RGPS is my alma mater and given where we are staying, that was a no brainer when it came time to register my DD. DH's old school is too far. I did say just get DS into any decent school in this area. But DH disagreed. Same thinking as you. He said dun want next time DS accuse us of being unfair.

On one hand hoping to get a positive reply from Pei Hwa and at the same time hoping property prices will come down.

I seriously doubt property prices will fall unless there is a major economy dip again. Prices would most likely grow at a much slower rate.

Just recieved rejection letter from Ai Tong. Feeling so demoralised right now. Government keep encouraging us to have more kids. I listened and gave birth to 3 boys. Yet when it comes to choosing of school, they do not allow us to get our kids into the school of our choice. Still have to go through so many phrases.
My son was born in 2005. I have to wait for phrase 2c to register him for the school. Still need to ballot. The only lucky thing is that i live within 1 km. If i live out of that area, not even a chance of balloting. Haiz.

Hi Funz,
Property prices may not dip as economy is building up again.
Prices of HDB around Pei Hwa are very high (4 room flat close to $450K).
Bukit Batok also not cheap…some friends looking around there. -

I can understand the frustration. But a couple of years ago quite a number of PVs were balloted out of Phase 2B for Ai Tong. That means they did the PV and still did not get their children into Ai Tong. It is that hot a school. So think of this as a blessing in disguise and start your contigency planning.Just recieved rejection letter from Ai Tong. Feeling so demoralised right now. If you are still hoping Ai Tong, you may want to think about the SHHK route. -

Um, for Ai Tong, via the SHHK route, may be a bit dangerous in view that her son was born in 2005. This is traditionally one hot school and based on past anecdotes, one will need to be a member for quite many years or be super active in SHHK before they issue that coveted letter.

I understand there was one year where they only gave to pp who were members for more than 4 years. A friend got rejected from SHHK recommendation letter becos they stay more than 2km.
Can try, but be very certain that this is not a sure route.
