Interpreting it literally (and if the excerpt is correct), option 2 means the mother will cook only 1 bowl of rice. The rest of the family must be on diet 😅
After Laoshi's explanation, option 1 seems like a better option. -
I was wondering what has this question got to do with listening Comprehension. The kids may understand the text but to answer this question, it also depends on their own experience. Even as adults, each of us may have our own perspective and interpretation. It seems like there’s no absolute correct or wrong answer in this case. To me, this question was not well set and not a fair test of the children’s capability.
-
Yes it does depends on the listener’s lived experience and values / attitude towards exercise and food.
-
I think the question is whether there is a \"right\" answer. They all seemed fine to me, depending on the mother
Is this listening comprehension, where students are tested based on the strength of their argument? -
Fundamentally, this is a language test question, so 遣词用字、语境、语法、语气 will impact the choice of the answer. Otherwise, will become a situation of 见仁见智.
Relevance wise, related information/knowledge is covered in the current syllabus, e.g.
Pri 4A 我不怕打针(inc. body check up, height and weight)
Pri 4B 天天运动身体好(inc. sports, exercises)
Pri 5A 身体会说话(inc. organs, dietary habits)
Pri 6A 美食小侦探(inc. cooking methods - roast, stir-fry, deep-fry, steam etc., types of food) -
I can only say SEAB is basically testing which kids can read its mind or have similar train of thoughts as them. Very cruel and brutal of SEAB to blindside our children this way. I shudder at the thought of what is to come in the upcoming papers.

But by the same token, if he continues to overeat but exercise it also won’t resolve the problem in the long run. It’s counter productive. And he attributed his weight gain solely on overeating . We also don’t know if he has been exercising. If pick 1, the assumption is made he has not been exercising but there is no contextual clue to support this. It’s purely out of assumption.
This type of question in LC is similar to 完成对话 component of Paper 2 Booklet B.
Option 3 will be the first one to be eliminated because there's no issue with type of food (e.g. fast food, lack of vegetables etc.) in the conversation.
Option 1 will be the better choice from context and language expression point of view, because 伟强 attributed his weight gain to eating more than 1 bowl of rice every time, the \"其实\" in Option 1 is responding to his point of view, highlighting/explaining to him that his weight gain is not purely because of that. Also, the issue raised by 伟强 was his gain in weight. Eating a bowl of rice will generally prevent this issue from escalating but cannot address/solve it.
Hence best answer is cut down portion AND exercise! 🤣 This question should be void! -
I think this inference types of questions really depends on the maturity and experiences of the kid. Imagine the kids mum always asking kid to eat lesser cuz kid is fat then he will choose option 2. If the kids mum is health conscious kind always asking kid to exercise then he will choose 1. If the kids mum is always asking the kid to eat more food no matter what he/she says especially nutritious food then kid will choose 3. They supposed to know what a correct mother’s response should be?
Wells…. -
Feel so sad. I think my child pick 3. Cuz I’m always asking her to eat more nutritious food even though she’s full cuz she so skinny… seems like it’s my fault for saying that.
-
It kills creativity thoughts among the kids based on such inference type of questions.
