For those kids who get 6 - 4, and get into RI or HCI, if sch only offer h2 subjects, don't think students have the choice? Not sure how it will work.
Not everyone starts with 4H2 in RI. Because there will be those who opt for 3H2+1H1 from the start, by choice. And there will be those who go in with DSA who didnt meet the L1R5 of a certain score told to them by the school, who will start with 3H2+1H1, not by choice.

Does anyone have the computation formula?

At which point eg ABB or ABC and below will the 4th subj scores be more significant? Or at which the 4th subj eg A or B would it be useful to improve the RP?
        Straits Times MOE
Press release never mentioned nor indicate your above concern, so far.

        However,
        you can certainly expect

a lot more A level students scoring a perfect score of max 70 points from

Year 2026 A-level results announcement date onwards,

        Compared

to the current max 90 points A-level score system. This will definitely impact the Pioneering batch of A level students born in the year 2007 (piggies batch), who are taking their A level in year 2026 (Sep to Nov).

        Moreover,
that 2007 born piggies batch, are extremely \"kiasu, extremely competitive, compared to those earlier borne in years (2003 / 2004 / 2005 / 2006) batch of students ! You have seen how they performed academically, in year 2019 PSLE.

If u are an O level graduate,

with an overall NETT L1R5 score of around 7 points, when the O level results are released in early January 2024 next year, released around 12 January date :-

perhaps can consider switching over to IB (SJI / ACSI), instead of A-level

Hence, i am trying to establish if o level students taking triple sci with only one SS+elective human Geo, will limit her choice of 4 H2 in A levels, meaning there is no choice but only choose H1 Geo as contrasting subj?

It's perfectly alright if students decide to take 3H2 + H1 and not taking extras.

Yet to find out more from individual JC website.

H2 contrasting subjects such as Economics or History will not have prerequisites.

One example is below. Entering via JAE should be able to take H2 E Lit, Geo, History, or Econ.

                  1)
                  for Literature (A level) :-

some Junior Colleges do impose a minimum, \"B3\" grade pre-requiste in your English (O level), while other JCs do not impose. So, pls google the individual JC, first.

                  2) for A-level (History + Geography), Junior Colleges do not impose any pre requistes.

                  However,

If u were to jump in straight without any background at all into A-level ( History or Geography ), bear in mind that -

on your own effort, u will have to buck up quickly, in terms of acquiring critical thinking, analysis skills for say, example, on subject History (Humanities), if suppose, History happen to be that A level subject u have decided to choose.

                  Why ?

                  Because

Those students who had gone through past two years of intensive O level (History / Geography) learning -

                  be it they have taken
                  Pure (History / Geography)

                  OR

Elective (History / Geography), at O level -

would have already gone through past two years of (Sec 3 and Sec 4), having acquired intensive critical thinking analysis skills, on historical events that had taken place

                  or

In Geographical topics / themes that had been taught.

In contrast, u had missed out these entire set of training skills, for past 2 years. Hence, u really need to buck up. Will be tough in the beginning, as u go up the learning curve, since your foundation has not been built earlier. Because u need TIME, to BUILD UP your critical thinking skills. Is not an overnight thing, that one can master straight away, esp. For Humanities subjects.

If this is what you are mentally prepared for, to take up the challenge,
                  then

by all means, can choose A level (History or Geog) Humanities.

Just verified that both RI and HCI do not mandate all J1 students, even those qualified to, to take 4 H2 subjects in J1.

For HCI, taking 4H2 is not a given for everyone. For IP students, you need to meet a certain GPA at Sec 4, to read 4H2s at JC1. I'm not sure what the criteria is for JAE students.

Given the JAEs are L1R5 6 - 8 gross, I would think they are all eligible for 4H2 (those marks would easily clear the MSG requirements, unless one wants to start bickering about the difference in papers, not saying this is or isn't true. I guess there are some differences in the L1R5 vs. the S4 MSG calcs, but more or less the kids entering from O Level are doing very well). I believe the only constraint is that they cannot cross streams from where they entered.
