Thanks slmkhoo. Do you happen to know If promotion criteria still harder at NYGH compared to RGS?
Someone with current info should answer. My info is many years out of date. Anyway, I think most girls at both those schools should be strong in studies - promotion criteria is not something I've every thought about.

        Passing and Promotion Criteria
To be promoted to the next level of study in the school, students in all four levels (Year 1, 2, 3, and 4) must attain
        1. A Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 and
        2. A Pass in English Language (Grade Point of at least 2.00)

My DD got AL5. Does she have good chance for RGS?

Also what is the process of CCA selection? Say for shooting or Debate/Drama?

If I recall correctly, on reporting day, your child will be given a form to indicate whether to take Higher Chinese Language (HCL) or not. Most girls are encouraged to opt for HCL.

The advantage of taking HCL is that your child will no longer need to take Chinese in Y5 if she get a pass in O Level.

                    CCA Selection Trials/Auditions: 2nd and 3rd week
CCA Trial Results: 1st week Feb
CCA Options Exercise: After result is released
                    Results of CCA Allocation:
                    CCA starts on Mid-Feb onwards

You have 2 weeks of trials and your girl can try on anything she likes. Selection is just like any other secondary school.

                    Info from student portal.

Every Year 1 RGS pupils MUST submit their 4 CCA Options, one of the option MUST be an Uniformed Group CCA.

DSA Music students ARE REQUIRED to join a instrumental CCA i.e. Angklung Ensemble, Band Symphonic, Chinese Orchestra, Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Handbell Ensemble and String Ensemble.

                    Hope this helps.
