Not all TLL teachers are good. It’s typically their materials that were were developed. But if the teacher just follow curriculum w/o properly explaining or guiding the weaker students, the fees are down the drain.
DS experienced a few such teachers & a fellow parent pointed me to the good ones & we switched class, thereafter DS not only excel but was ahead of his class. What the teacher did was to personally guide each child, whilst issuing more higher level & kept going incl those Olympaid type exercises for Math. She was dedicated to point will stay behind to guide the slower ones or arrange her non-teaching time.
We later found Mr Sherman Tseng who partnered with a curriculum writer fr TLL & did much better content teaching & materials.
I wld say, parents need to be wise & not crowd wit the flock. Choose the right tutor appropriate for the child, if they don’t work, quickly find a suitable & switch. I don’t wish for any child to waste their learning time & get discourage for poor teachers. -

Yes, most may not be thinking of Med course when their kids were just N2. However, why are there parents willing to spend on expensive tuition? Because they believe that if their kids can achieve good academic results, more doors/opportunities will open up for their kids when it’s time to choose schools/Uni courses. If my P6 kid can score AL4, practically can choose any sec sch of their choice.
Just learnt from another parent, a full TLL tuition from young can spend $100k :yikes: and from N2 can hit $200k (double yikes!) Most are not thinking of Med course bah.
$100k + 60k, can go overseas after poly liao or at least pri uni with overseas experience.
DH’s staff took one year no pay leave to help her P6 son. Estimated one year lost income of $300K+. This I cannot quite comprehend. Might as well send the child to TLL since N2? -

Parents can choose between giving kid a full childhood wihtout tuition from day 1 and pay extra for a good tertiary education. It may turn out paying less than what they would be paying for full tuition.
I see it differently, paying $300-400 permonth for tuition for one subject in order to get top 10% for ESIS value of $200 per month, I just dont get it. MAybe it is just me. Just saying only. adiós -

I gave her examples I read on some people difficulties..but till now I still haven't received a good reason. Initially she was unhappy even cried for me to even suggest that..then I told her some didn't know it themselves till they become adults. After a while, she asked what if one really have the situation and what can they do. I may not be correct... I told her I don't think we could do much other than working around the problems.
Firstly, you need to find out what are the reasons your DD cannot absorb.
Is it due to some learning difficulties (like attention deficit) or is it due to poor time management? Or does she have poor understanding of some fundamental concepts?
When some kids attend TLL, where the pace is very fast, they may catch no ball because their fundamentals are weak. I used to give my niece 1-1 tuition when she was P6. As I found that her foundation was weak, I went through with her all the entire P5 curriculum one more time before we moved on to work on P6 topics. If my niece had been sent to TLL, she wouldn’t do well because she already lagged in P5 topics, then how could she absorb P6 topics taught at accelerated speed?
But can tell you niece is very obedient type. This group of students got higher chance to succeed I feel.
To add, my dd has this ability of total shut off from things she doesn't like. She mentioned that more than once to me when she was younger. She was so unhappy and can see a kind of messy miserable expression on face for a period of time near exam during when I was feeling that I really need to interfere in her studies..then luckily dh came along told me to let just her do it on her own..then the change has became so opposite..saw a much happier girl of her original self. I asked her to drop subject coz really got no time to revise but she insisted and told me not to worry much..I can only just let her. -

That's cold. Last night went out for a walk and kept shivering. My dh who is usually below my level of 'heatiness' was feeling surprised. I thought that I must be falling sick soon since lately I had pain here and there. I told him we need to eat mutton again so off we went to buy. Later then we had a good laugh coz realised I was wearing too little just 1 layer inside when it was around 9deg and was windy at the park. -
I was trying for the in between method. Moderate tuition with moderate results expectations. I personally feel that it is not going to be healthy to go through stress period all the time in our lives. So I try not to give much stress to my children too much when they are still young in hope of they having a ‘deeper unfilled pot of stress’ ready for their future journeys. Actually they do have stress along the way…and I too. Thanks to reminder of a fellow mommy…I will try to think what I have got instead of what I may have lost.

You can't \"cure\" autism or blindness, but you can find ways to work round the problems, as you told her. At the same time, the kids have to realise that \"working round a problem\" often means having to put in extra effort (compared with others), and also that expectations of the outcome usually have to be adjusted lower. If she is upset, it could be that she either hasn't recognised or come to terms with the \"difficulty\", and/or hasn't put in the right kind or amount of effort to work round the issues. This vacation is a good time to help her assess if she needs to consider some of these issues.

We learned that we had to have very different expectations for our 2 daughters because of the older one's ASD. It's been a learning experience for us over her growing up years - she worked as hard as her sister, and achieved so much less in terms of results. It is still a work in progress - we can see how her job choice and performance (and pay) are affected by her issues. We are happy that she is managing well in her job, and will hopefully have her contract renewed (still waiting to hear!), but her job level/scope and pay are diverging ever more widely from her sister's as time goes on. We don't compare or ask her to aim higher to compete, and she is very accepting of the difference. We work with what we have. -

Yr dd may not be as good as her sis..but to me, what she has achieved has surpassed many other people. She has really done a good job. As her parents, I feel that both you and your dh should be feeling very proud of her after much efforts and sacrifices. From reading, it seems many of CS jobs are contractual nowadays/been a while? Usually after how many renewals then convert to permanent? Wish your dd the best!

Always feel govt job feel more secured than SMEs. I know this person started a business abt 10yrs ago … part of reason is for the son who is not so academically inclined, quite an introvert and lack of confidence type of boy. Many years to today, the son has a master degree fm a private uni, do marketing and some own research on new services for the co. Can only admire much. We also read not too long ago abt parents started hawker bz(if remember correctly) for next gen. Parents always worry for children arh…
