HCI COP was 7D for 2021 PSLE batch. Only dropped to 7M last year.

Not indicative enough to conclude that all COPs have improved. Last year COPs increased for a number of express schools, likely due to lowest cohort size (Tiger year) compared to 2021 batch.

Also could be different DSA intake size in different years.
Hmm. I thought HCI has been consistently at AL7M, even since the indicative COP. I don’t rmb they got AL7D before.

I think some data not correct. I’m quite sure it was AL7M because my DS was PSLE 2022, so I referred to MOE finder, it was AL7M and I rmb thinking it hasn’t changed.

                Thanks for highlighting.

My previous post was to point out the the COPs of the 2022 PSLE batch may not be typical as the cohort size was the lowest, so a number of COPs were not their usual. Eg. MHS, Commonwealth Sec, St M, CGS, BPGH, CCHM etc

Does that mean that the cohort vacancies for S1 did not change for tiger year? I know for P1 registration, they do reduce the cohort vacancies for Tiger year.

Went to check the PSLE Cohort size
                  2021 - 39119
                  2022 - 37095
                  2023 - 38088

The 2023 cohort size is not quite similar to 2021 but the COP for quite afew schools have improved by 1-2 points, back to 2021 COP. So I think overall the 2023 kids did better.

Not sure about other schools but my son’s school reduced their S1 intake by 1 class for Tiger year. From total 9x40 reduced to 8x40.

If they do adjust the S1 intake, then the COP should more or less be stable. Not sure how many schools actually adjust their intake. My son's school (IP) didn't change I think. So far, HCI and SJI saw an improvement in COP for IP. I don't have the updates for girls schools.

Just wondering then for PSLE 2024, what's the strategy for sec school choices. Should follow 2023 PSLE COP?

infrastructure is planned for a fixed number of students long ago based on the ard 40 to 39K students. Eg no of classrooms, assembly venues etc. Also the number of teaching staff. Those schools which reduced no. of class can be flexible or get enough students for those in higher demand. No. of classrooms are still available for full capacity.

Intake number which is flexible is not the same as capacity limitation cohort max size. In case of reduce 1 class, is there a reduction of teaching staff permanently affecting future years? If wanted to, school can still take in 1 more class if there is a demand for it. Hence, for the years with cohort size below capacity, I think the pressure is lower.
