Anyone has recommendation for Chem H2 tuition?

Can please share why is Econs the most common contrasting subject? What is a less common choice? Thanks

Of all the Arts subjects, Econs is seen to be the most \"scientific\" and \"mathematical\", and so more interesting or easier for science students. It's also seen to be a more \"useful\" subject than History, Lit, etc. Geog probably comes next?

Yes... Econs is the most practical subject. I liked Geography, or at least used to, but I had a terrible teacher and it killed my interest in Geography. I liked History because it was like reading a story book... except you need to remember dates :razz: . Literature was great because I thought I could state my own opinion on the stories... until I realized that to score, you have to memorize and quote other people's opinions

Totally what my girl realised too. It was \"supposed\" or not supposed to be the subj to have own views... Lol... Not so... So if you do not have the views of the majority, better not to take the subj unless there is no other better subj to take. Ie cannot do well in other subjs.

Or is it just in Sg that marking of lit still follows standard answers? Different shade of colours are not accepted? Often how one read a book depends on the experiences of the person. I recall my child read a book thinking that the protagonist is a white in her school with some black kids, but it turn out it was the other way, the protagonist is a black in the real (adult) world of majority whites. The only line saying that the girl has different skin pigmentation as the others. So if the marker is strict such kids will lose out,

Fortunately, she enjoys history and can do well in Geo, so she can choose.

In fact Lit has no definite answer? but must hv personal response, & quote your evidence closely fm the text. While I agree to a certain extent that Lit is marked very subjective as it is not so straight forward like Math & Science, students must read the text very very critically & understand what's the authors trying to convey their hidden messages fm the text. As long as the students sit down & read critically & fully immersed the text, he/she will be able to score pretty fast ,& well. Previously dd tends to go shortcut, only flip to certain pages & didnt read critically the whole text, her CT/BT/Promo the most score B. Leading to Prelim, I forced her to read the whole text fm beginning to end, she finally got a decent A in the Prelim. So I must say students opt for Lit as H2 subject must be sensitive to the choice of words used to convey, & most importantly must totally understand more deeper meaning of the whole context that the author wants to convey.

I wonder what does removing mid-year exam for JC1 really mean…


I mean even for current and past batches, the first tests for JC1 should be right after the June holidays right? These can’t possibly be removed right? Or maybe replaced with smaller bite-sized assessments, like what secondary schools have done with so-called removal of mid-year exams?

Is there any JC that has mid-year exam during May in the current system? Lessons only start in March, think hardly worthwhile to set an exam in May. Moving forward, my guess is the first real assessments will still be after June holiday, but maybe instead of full paper for each subject, it may be scaled down to a shorter paper, but will still test all topics taught from Mar to May. Let's see..

That's what I thought too. But it doesn't seem like so. There is still marking standard and accepted answers, how marks are awarded. Maybe thats how it is w lower level. Teacher to students ratio is too low. One can explain their answers with justifications, their own perspective, more in class but not in exam.
