All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

ChiefKiasu:
Um, for Ai Tong, via the SHHK route, may be a bit dangerous in view that her son was born in 2005. This is traditionally one hot school and based on past anecdotes, one will need to be a member for quite many years or be super active in SHHK before they issue that coveted letter.
I can understand the frustration. But a couple of years ago quite a number of PVs were balloted out of Phase 2B for Ai Tong. That means they did the PV and still did not get their children into Ai Tong. It is that hot a school. So think of this as a blessing in disguise and start your contigency planning.adaline:
Just recieved rejection letter from Ai Tong. Feeling so demoralised right now. Government keep encouraging us to have more kids. I listened and gave birth to 3 boys. Yet when it comes to choosing of school, they do not allow us to get our kids into the school of our choice. Still have to go through so many phrases.
My son was born in 2005. I have to wait for phrase 2c to register him for the school. Still need to ballot. The only lucky thing is that i live within 1 km. If i live out of that area, not even a chance of balloting. Haiz.
If you are still hoping Ai Tong, you may want to think about the SHHK route.
I understand there was one year where they only gave to pp who were members for more than 4 years. A friend got rejected from SHHK recommendation letter becos they stay more than 2km.
Can try, but be very certain that this is not a sure route. -
Sorry but could u kindly tell me what is shhk??

My son is now k1. Is it too late for me already to do school's voluntary work?

I'm afraid so. Parents would write in to the school of choice to apply to be PV in Jan (the year the child turns 4). Shortlist would have been done and PVs would have started their PV duties from June this year.
However, you can still write in to the school but do bear in mind that you may be turned down. -

Hi parents,
anybody going for next week Racial Harmony Celebration to volunteer at BPPS?
I’m one of the parents selected as PV at BPPS. Very grateful to the school to give me a chance to volunteer after rejected by NHPS. -

Parent Volunteer Scheme Application
14 July 2010
Dear Parents,
Application is now open to parents of children born in the year 2006, who are due for registration in July 2012. Application will be closed in the month of October 2010. -
Finally, after 3 years of preparation, I awaited this day to come.
At 5pm, I called the NHPS and they told me my child is in (cos I am staying within 1km, no balloting) I almost wanted to cry…The joy…nothing can describe… Luckily I only have to go thru one time.
Anyway, for those parents who have also put in so much and yet need to ballot, my heart goes out to you…All the best. -
