Hi, may I check whether anyone has received the PG link for Sec 1 registration? I understand the school is supposed to send out today from 2pm onwards. We are on the road tomorrow and won’t want to miss the registration deadline of 5pm 21 Dec.

anyone knows what is the level expected for Strings CCA. My girl is in G6 ABRSM and intends to play G5 pieces for audition. She is in G5 theory.

1) if enter by DSA (string instrument or MEP Music Elective programme),

many DSA applicants into SCGS have already passed or possessed either ABRSM (Grade 7 or Grade 8). A handful of applicants currently doing music Diploma stage.

But

2) if enter by Cut off point (PSLE), in the early part of January, in the initial first few weeks, there Is an audition conducted, for students keen in music Cca. If you have already passed Grade 5 ABRSM or beyond and can play a string instrument, can try (attempt) audition.

I'm a Sec2 student in an SAP IP school.

I've been thinking of transferring to SCGS bc it's my dream school and I don't really fit into my previous SAP sch. It is also more convenient for me to travel there and for EJC too. For my PSLE, I scored 8M and placed scgs as my top choice, but sadly didn't get in. My results at the start of sec1 was shaky, but its better now.
I've looked through the previous few posts, and I have a few questions
I plan to transfer to IP, is there a way I can do it sooner or should I apply for the transfer and take the exam?
I want to transfer ASAP if possible ( even in Sec 2 its fine )
The CCA in my current sch is known to have a strong team in SCGS, I want to continue with that CCA but what are the chances I will get in?
There are subjects that are special to SCGS, will it be challenging to learn it?
What is the start and end time of the school?

Some info:
My results in Sec 1 was starting as a gpa of 3, now its at gpa 3.5 based on last year EOY. My chinese and english are the weaker ones, both at C, while the rest of my subjects are A1. May I know if my results are good enough to get into the school?

If you did not enter by DSA, but entered by PSLE AL score,

Yes,
u can proceed to seek Transfer.
If u have entered by DSA, MOE will not allow u to seek Transfer.

Actually,
u can just give a phone call to SCGS, request to speak to the VP in charge of Academic (SCGS), personally. Do not speak to any admin lady who happen to pick up your phone call, but request to speak to that officer in charge of Transfer. And she is the VP Academic in charge (SCGS).

Now, there are a few VPS present, inside SCGS. Do not speak to the VP in charge of Admin operation, ie. the daily running of the day to day affairs. She is not in charge. Speak to the right, correct officer. And she is the VP of Academic affairs.


She will let u know when exactly, to submit your Transfer Application process. That is, is it submit now or wait until end of Sec 2 (2024) ?

I think your Transfer chance is pretty high, since your PSLE score is 8 (Merit). More over,

you are currently studying in an SAP (IP) school. My guess is that u are currently studying in SAP schools like (Dunman High, River Valley High or possibly Nanyang Girls High, under the affliation of NYPS for girls). All these are good SAP (IP) schools. Transfer from a SAP school, to a Non SAP school, is always easier. The other way round, is more difficult, unless yr Chinese Is strong.

If u are Sec 2 now, that means u are born in year 2010, entered Sec 1 in 2023 (last year). Be mentally prepared to answer these qns below, because SCGS (VP or P), whoever is the Interviewer for Transfer on that day, will ask u :-

did u appeal to us (SCGS) before, in year 2010 (November), right after the immediate release of your PSLE results, since u have scored 8 (Merit) ? Why not ?

But,
If u have appealed before to SCGS, then they will dig out yr past Appeal record, to check. But Is OK to let them check.

Why do u want to leave, your current SAP (IP) school ?

what do u like about SCGS ?

(Pls do not reply me openly in this forum, the qns posed here. Because your answers, yr reply, are very personal & confidential to yourself. But these are qns that u need to rehearse at home first, before meeting SCGS P or VP, face to face, because they will definitely ask u, if u are short listed for a Transfer interview ).

regarding that favorite Cca of yours, if that Cca has vacancy, they might arrange for either a Sports trial or a Performance Arts trial to assess u. But that will come later, after u have successfully transfered over into SCGS.

But if No vacancy, during Transfer interview, SCGS may counter ask u, instead :-

If that favorite Cca of yours does not have any vacancy left, will u still be interested to join us (SCGS), if u have to take up another Cca. And what Cca, will that be ?

So, pls go to SCGS Cca website, check which other Cca are u interested in, as an alternative backup Cca, to your original intended one.

Sch has the autonomy to choose the candidate who wld have the right fit, including academic strength, correct mentality, can contribute their skillset to sch, among those who applied, when a vacancy is available.

All of below, will be factored in, during the Transfer request evaluation process conducted by school Principal(s), VPs (Academic) , into Secondary schools :-

1) your Lower (Sec 1 & Sec 2) results

+

2) not forgetting, with reference to your past PSLE score, as well.

3) your Cca record

4) your conduct in school

5) your past achievements, in Sec ( 1 & 2 )

But or course,
heavier weightage will be placed on your Lower Secondary school results, since u are already in Secondary school now, in your teens.
