I've been hearing people complain about falling English standards in Singapore, particularly among Gen Zs, and expressing dissatisfaction with their English teachers and curriculum. I'm studying something related in university, and out of curiosity, I want to know what parents might think about this.

How important is your role in developing your child's language abilities compared to schools or enrichment centres, for example? Are you a role model by ensuring you speak good English at home?

I’ve 3 children in primary, secondary and poly. Compared to my time, their English is far better than in the 60s. Ultimately, language is for communication and easy understanding. Therefore, I not too concern about standard but more on their communication skills

@Wonder-ful They may be easily understood in Singapore, but what about elsewhere? I’m all for keeping our Singapore brand of English alive, but I hope all students can also switch to standard English that can be understood internationally when necessary. Singapore is too small to expect others to adapt to us (as the main English-speaking nations do).
