Does this mean 7-3 and 8-4 not even have balloting chance?
My neighbor daughter from neighborhood sec school, got raw 6 - 2 (CCA) = 4, got rejected by HCI, went into NYJC second choice, had asked her to appeal. -
Think 6-2, 7-3 or 8-4 are the same COP 4. No differentiation.

Citizenship status first. If both students same citizenship (e.g., SC), then better gross aggregate score will be considered. So assuming the girl is SC, then 7-3 and 8-4 will not have any chance.

If u notice, this year (2024), the Cut off point for some JCs have improved. That means, this year, the piggies batch have done a lot better than last year. More hardworking, perhaps. Thus, end up, many have scored well, within A1 to B3 range, in most subjects.
Now u know why i wanted so much for my kid to do MSP instead of HCL.
Over at the Polytechnic side, for example
Republic Polytechnic, certain courses are in hot demand, full house already.
IB (SJI) also improved from 7 to 6, just like ACSI improved from 5 to 4.
For those who are very keen in IB, if they failed to enter first choice (ACSI), they may have been posted to IB (SJI) instead, if they fall within 6 points nett, for SJI.
Going forward, is going to be stressful for the next batch of O-level candidates.
Yes, u are wise. You have applied the correct strategy (wisdom). Is better to study MSP to discount further another 2 more points, than not to study MSP at all. -

Actually things haven’t change much right. During our time, our competition is more intense because everyone takes the same O level and there is a bell curve. Now, there is presumably lesser competition for O level results as IP students are excluded. So the bell curve should be kinder than it is during our time? In fact now can deduct 4 points. During our time, I think max is 2 points for HcL or affiliation via “first 3 mth advantage” or school affiliation? I don’t recall having 2 extra points for cca.
It is really depressing to see that a student who scores all distinctions (A2 x 6 = 12) and 2 CCA bonus points (-2 = 10) would just barely be able to enter a non-IP JC.
And that to enter an IP JC via JAE would require one to aim for all A1s. Just how many of our generation would be able to do that? COP for the top 5 JCs never used to be so stringent during our time?
The O level kids these days must be under such pressure :gloomy:
-

Actually the fall of NJC over the years is just a sad case. I recalled in its glorious years in the 70s-80s, it is the no 2 most sought after JC.
I went to NJC OH 2018 and actually loved the school for its old Sch charm and the charismatic principal. The boarding Sch smelled a bit musty but couldnt be helped cos of its age. In recent years, I heard the Sch building roofs were leaking etc and maintenance was not properly carried out. Maybe that’s also the reason for its recent decline in popularity (charismatic principal also retired I think).
