Yamaha Special Junior Advanced Course - Discussion

Coming Jun 19 (Sat) Electone Festival - any idea length of performance?
Interestingly, just found out that different branches have different row/seating allocation.
JSAC 1 parents were advised to bring their kids to watch as they will be participating in the next year’s. -

Yap, group class has to be in Plaza Sgp. Not that bad in the weekend 'cos I get to shop and even sign up pedicure package
My DS is polishing his music skills & I, polishing my toes ! Cool, right?
Weekend arrangement should be of no problem. But classes on weekdays are totally beyond our reach at Plaza Sg.
Question is, can 2 lessons for every week all fall on weekends? one on Sat and one on Sun?? Isn't that too close? -

The practices/homeworks are different for both group and individual lessons. As long as your kid is not the type that does last minute work before lessons, guess that should be fine. Issue is whether you can get both individual and group classes during weekends. Weekends I noticed are typically reserved for group classes by the teachers and I think it'll be unlikely you will be able to get any weekend slot for individual class. Even for my kid's individual class, it's on a weekday but at least at an evening timing that I can make it & without having to travel to Singapura Plaza.Weekend arrangement should be of no problem. Hi radiantmum,
How's your son doing so far. It has been quite a few months since he started right?
Hope he is enjoying it.

Hey, great to "see"you here

Mine continues to look forward to his lessons very much. He was telling me excitedly after his recent 1-1 class that he had started to learn music arrangement. Noticed that he’s able to progress faster on new pieces now though his teacher still need to bug him to check his counts before start of each new piece
He’s struggling a little in completing his composition and we had to cajole him with incentives to get him to expand his song and to pen down his notes/thoughts ;-< Apparently they need to submit 1 own composition for recording by end of this year. I didnt even dare to ask the teacher if completing one piece by then is acceptable or they are expected to finish several pieces in order to be able to select their best work ;-<
He’ll be taking his first practical and theory coming Sept/Oct timeframe. Yours just had his in Mar right? How did he and his class do? Must be more stressful as one gets into upper primary. Furthermore yours is managing both electone and piano as well eh? Would love to hear you/your kid’s experiences. -

The first grade is pretty easy, the JSAC students are expected to score distinction. Most of the class would anyway, if not all. Take note that playing the exam pieces is not a big deal, it is the other things which count as well - sight reading, listening, chord playing etc. Make sure he practices on these as well.
Am surprised to hear the recording at end of first year. Apparently, there was a change of the head and he made quite a lot of changes to the course.
My son got a distinction for the exam, although he did not score As for all the sections.
Work is becoming tougher and it is difficult to manage his time. I had to let his piano slip a little and focus on theory instead, as he has to finish his grade 5 ABRSM theory this year in order to pass his JSAC.
Not sure that I will let him audition for SSAC looking at his workload.

Congrats to your kid on the distinction !! Well done !
Didn't realise that they still have to audition for SSAC as well. Thought exam results and teachers' recommendations would be sufficient. Will be a pity if not to continue on to SSAC, ya think? If you/he decided not to proceed with SSAC, would encourage to still go ahead for the audition and \"get the kick\" of being selected  Wonder what'll be ave % of \"drop out\" from JSAC to SSAC due to workload or not selected etc. -

Thanks.
drop out rate used to be about half, so I hear. But now, it seems that they may put more through $$$ -
 That tough eh?

There is a Junior Original concert coming up. This features original compositions from the students, both piano and electone. Sometimes, a few surprises do pop up; e.g. one year, a Chinese Orchestra group actually performed a student's composition!
Do bring your kid - it may just inspire them to compose.
