If go poly, have to make sure to study the course u want.
If not, wasting 3 years precious time and $. This is the risk, if go to poly.
The school fees $ Polytechnic course, charged per year (annum) for PRs & SCs (Singapore citizens) : not cheap. -
For JAE students who have appealed to respective Polytechnic for the course that u are interested in, do remember that once your Appeal made is successful, your initial, original Poly course posting, will be revoked.
However, if your Appeal Is not successful, then your original Poly course posting is still there, still intact.
Example
=≈=====
Suppose you (a JAE student) have initially, originally been posted to
Electrical Engineering course (at Republic Polytechnic). But, u made an Appeal, to re-consider studying at Singapore Polytechnic instead, for the same course.
Assuming that your Appeal is successful, then your posting to original Republic Poly will be revoked, after your Appeal is successful for SG Polytechnic (Electrical Engineering course).
==========================
The Appeal to Polytechnic outcome posting notification, will appear on your handphone via sms, on
Wednesday (21 February 2024),

I feel that Republic Polytechnic (RP) located in Woodlands, is a God-sent educational institution.
Because
for 16 year old students who are keen in Applied Chemistry (example), to get into this interesting course at say, Singapore Polytechnic or Ngee Ann Polytechnic, the Cut off point is quite demanding ... single digit expectation.
However, for this same, identical Diploma course (Applied Chemistry) at Republic Poly (RP), students with COP around 19 or 20 points can still get in. That means, RP is giving a 2nd (second) chance to students, who desired to enter this course.
Besides Applied Chemistry,
there are also a few courses also behave like this. That is, around COP 20 points (l1r5), still can study these courses, as long as u have interests (passion) in that industry. Hence, RP is really wonderful ! :salute:
COP : Cut off point -
From what I’ve seen, engineering programs at polytechnics tend to have pretty high standards.
-
I recently received acceptance letters from SP and NYP to study for the Diploma in Information Technology course.
As far as my assumption takes me, NYP seems to be the superior option when it comes to IT, but there are also a lot of mixed opinions on the internet.
Since there’s most likely no way to compare both polytechnics purely based on how well a subject is taught, does anyone know which polytechnic offers better facilities or seems to have stronger connections with autonomous universities and companies in general?
If you think the other polytechnics are better than the ones I’ve stated, feel free to share your opinion.
Many thanks. -
For those of you (JAE post O level students) who did not do well, exceeded 20 points in your L1R5, cannot go JC, also cannot go to your favorite, desired Polytechnic course, it may be better that you repeat your O-level, work hard for whatever course u desire.
Why ?
1) because
what is delaying one year of your whole life, when your entire life is so many more years, before you ?
2) sometimes, it may be family problems or situation at home, that prevented u from performing your best, at your peak, during O level.
If you go for the course that Polytechnic anyhow assign u to, to a course that u later on dislike, you are going to waste further more time. You are going to waste 3 more years inside the Poly, doing a course which u have no interest in, at all.
Which is worse ?
To spend an extra one more year, to repeat your O level, so as to improve your grades so that u can finally enter into your desired JC or into your desired Poly course, that you want ?
OR
wasting 3 years of your golden prime Youth inside a Polytechnic, studying a course which you have no interest in ? -
