I think so! Not having boys, I was rather taken aback by my nephew's interest too when he was around the same age as your son. It wears off after a while and they move on to other things. He's very into long-distance running and cycling now - just completed a half-marathon! He's 17 now.
Just putting a recommendation here, if anyone’s kid are interested in taking up core/elective History in upper sec. My boy discovered this whole WW2 documentary series on Netflix and spent his year-end holidays binge watching it. There’s apparently another series on famous dictators (i dunno if i should be concerned he i̶d̶o̶l̶i̶z̶e̶s̶ is fascinated by hitler and stalin…) The various countries’ tanks and fighter jets as well. Maybe it’s a boy thing.

Yeah... it's a boy thing. Like the boys, I am fascinated by Hitler and Stalin and they represented how the world can be easily swayed by just a handful of humans holding an immense amount of power. Then I related them to how some of my bosses behave and the similarity is scary
Dunno, maybe I behave that way myself

Hi all, I’ve read about the history syllabus for secondary school students and MOE allows the school to design and create notes under the guideline of the prescribed curriculum like Singapore, SEA history etc. May I know if they are also applied to IP/IB students? I wonder if IB DP students are studying history according to the IB curriculum rather than the local MOE ones. TIA!

Does anyone know which assessment books or any practice resources that I can find, that aligns with this new syllabus textbook (new from 2023), \"Upper Secondary History : Unit 1 The Making of the 20th Century World 1870-1942\" (blue cover). Browsed through popular, quite confusing for upper sec history.

Not sure. But i heard that the new syllabus is not extremely different from the old one. Sthg like only the chapter on Stalin has been removed.

Ok thank you! Then no choice, need to cross check topic by topic. I tried to browse through but it's confusing.

Hi, i think u might have realized by now that your child’s IB school teaches lower sec History as “HACA (History and Current Affairs)”. So it is probably MOE textbook curriculum + some extra general knowledge stuff. Not sure if it extends to beyond Singapore, but do let us know if u find out!

Hi, you are quite right. They have created their own textbook e.g. school’s history, colonialism and their influences) and adding in slightly more content other than the MOE curriculum. Will update more as DS progresses.

Recently found this book, which makes learning historical information more like a non fiction thriller. Can help those having trouble liking history.
