Dont make it sound 'ma chiam' like Rocket Science. Dont need compare.
Simply Nyjc has performed very well, kudos to NYJC students’ strength + its excellently crafted Nyjc curriculum.
if you have the time, you may want to read prior postings that lead up to this. To know the reason. Not comparing. For learning a thing or 2, to reduce stress of future generation.

What is the reason you think it’s due to its student strength? Many others are surprise that NYJC does better than IP JCs. They think it should not happen, bcos IP students are suppose to be stronger than JAE students. If they don’t think IP suppose to be stronger than JAE, then they should not be surprise. Not doubting your view. Maybe you know something we don’t. Good if we can have some supporting facts.

I don’t have much facts. That is why I am having this discussion on forum and hoping others can agree or refute it, with facts if possible, or own experiences as next best thing, or alternate perspectives

I believe all jcs provide same std curriculum for A levels. It's the method use to deliver this same curriculum and their emphasis that differ.

I think it’s same syllabus for all JCs - what students will learn and tested on. Curriculum is how the contents will be taught. Delivery method and emphasis to me fall under how contents are taught , which is under curriculum. All same level schools will have the same MOE syllabus. But some schools may adopt different curriculum, especially those autonomous secondary schools/independent schools. One HCI JC teacher told parents during J1 school visit, that students should know what they are “signing up for”, because HCI JC curriculum is tough. Some students who want to challenge themselves, will choose schools’ with tougher curriculum.

I agree, possibly, it’s NYJC’s method of teaching and emphasis (curriculum) that resulted in their good A level performance, from heresay too. Am trying to have some certainties by ruling out other factors.

U were talking abt academic part and A level results. So curriculum is what i was referring to.

In general there are academic curriculum, cca (co curricular activities ) , talent prog, character building, leadership etc.

The academic curriculum in sg are not very different tbh. Esp among the better known schools. I do believe the significance is the delivery. In broad stroke IP schools are supposed to lead in independent learning.
I should not spell out any further.

i also agree that delivery of the academic curriculum may be one of the main factors contributing to the yoy better results performance. Seeing how my dd and her classmates fared and improved, gained her confidence from J1 to J2. Of course, I m also applauding the students who have put in tremendous efforts in the exam. Picking up from defeats in (one of ) the most difficult CT or prelim papers and still continue to put in alot of faith in themselves and the teachers.

I understand the ex-principal Mr Low, will also do a few walk-around to offer packed dinner to the students in the school campus at night, before CT or exam period. Caring teachers and principal is one of the draw.

Below is the slide on record performance in the recent A level results briefing.

              Don't worry, Dino

Nanyang Junior College has already caught up, miraculously !

              Who would have thought that,
once upon a time, back then in year 200x, from L1R5 close to 20 points, today, twenty years later, in year 2024, the Cut off point for NYJC has become transformed to ...

              nett 5 (Science) ?

Indeed, NYJC has come a long way & will continue to excel

              Holistically !

              Well done, NYJCians

Once an NYJCian, forever an NYJCian !
              Keep up your good work:-)

Continue to up hold the name of your beloved college high up, deep inside your heart, even if u leave NYJC, step into society to work.

              Remember. Don't forget.
Even if u have excelled academically in your GCE A-level results, ALWAYS remain grateful. Be grateful to who ?

              Grateful to your
( parents & JC teachers), who have supported you silently (quietly) from behind, with lots of love, care & concern shown.
              Why, be grateful ?

              Because

You will not be where you are today, if not for your
beloved (parents + JC teachers) strong, powerful pillar of support !

              Gratitude

Performance of 2023 A level batch of NYJCians (born in 2005), reported.

The H1 and H2 subjects, in which 2023 JC(2) students have attained outstanding record performance are :-

                  1) for H2 subjects
                  ===============

                  - H2 Chemistry
                  - H2 Computing

                  - H2 Further Mathematics
                  - H2 Mathematics

                  - H2 Translation

                  2) for H1 subjects
                  ===============

Let’s say we transplant the same curriculum into a lower tier JC, I do not think the the said JC will float to 3rd place (after RI and HCI). So we can’t say that the caliber of NYJC’s intake does not make a difference.

What I have heard is that NYJC teachers are good and caring. I think that makes a lot of difference.

Another reason NYJC has produced good results could be due to the previous policy (dare I say, loophole) that Arts students can do PCME/BCME. As we all know that for Arts (Humanities) subjects, marking can be very subjective. You thought you did well but the markers may think otherwise so your expected A in Econs (or GP or Literature) may become a C.

We shall see how NYJC will perform moving forward. I do not think NYJC can go back to reviving the policy as it is now on MOE’s radar and visible to the whole SG.

Someone shared in KSP before, another reason could be NYJC’s strategy is to get students to focus on 3H2 and 1H1 whereas RI/HCI/EJC/VJC etc. will push for 4H2. I would say the 3H2 focus is a good strategy for NYJC.

So I am curious to know, 3-5yrs down the road, how will the new A level marking system (RP70) affect NYJC standing when all JCs focus on doing well for 3H2s.

For sure, MOE has all the statistics to arrive at a confident conclusion. They can trace all students progresses from primary all the way to U, to have answers to many of our questions here. Hmm

let our imagination run wild for awhile. A level next year will change to scoring from 3 H2 subject only (content portion). As parents have pointed out, NYJC good performance could be due to their strategy of focusing only on 3H2 1H1, instead of 4H2. Assuming it’s true. Maybe MOE is taking leaf from NYJC’s strategy and apply it to all JC from next year A level , plus 1 step further, excluding even the H1 from scoring too. hmm

I don't thk the school merely focuses on 3H2 n 1H1. But i dont have ready hard number to share off hand. A number of my DD1's classmates actually takes 4H2. But if they are not doing well in one of their H2 subjects, noticeably Chem, they will be advise to drop the 4th H2 in J2.

There is a record number (in NYJC) of J2 students in the grad class of 2023 admitted for EASE, close to 24% of the corhort (i came across the list 1st hand, so no qualms on the number). These are the ones who have good prelim results (possibly other CT results, not sure ) and good portfolio to be selected for the \"green harvesting\" program for local uni's early admission. So it may be an indication of the no of students taking 4H2 and some even has a H3 subject, on top of their CCA commitment.
