Thanks for the reply!
A lot depends on the student. Which does your daughter prefer in terms of interest? A student who is interested will not find it as \"rigorous\" as one who is bored. Is she strong in Maths? That will make Physics easier.
My daughter took H2 Physics as she was strong in Maths, and didn't want to handle the more descriptive parts of Bio. She would probably have done fine if she had chosen Bio, but that was a personal choice.
Yes, she is strong in Math and she said she prefers bio too. But from the course syllabus, it seems that H2 Bio focuses more on cells, genetics etc. which looks to be very descriptive. So, she is leaning towards Physics
She is considering life science / pharmaceutical science in Uni and the entry requirement is H2 Chem with H2 Physics or Bio. Her concern now is that choosing Bio would probably make her transition in uni smoother. -

Both thoughts are right - being strong in Maths will make Physics easier; and studying Bio will make the transition to life/pharm sciences smoother. My daughter took Physics as she is strong in Maths and knew she had no interest in life/pharm sciences. And I know some students who went on to study life/pharm sciences without having done H2 Bio - they had to do some reading up and self-study, but they all seem to have managed without too much trouble. Your daughter will have to consider which alternative is less attractive, and choose the other!
Thanks for the reply!

wef. 2024 (JC 1 or first year), ie. students born in year 2007, onwards :-
1)
PW (Project Work) will Not be included in your A-level RP.
PW, is either a … Pass or Fail.
Thus, this is indeed a great relief, to many students !
However, one question remains.
What happen, if you failed PW ?
What’s the impact ?
2)
your 4th A-level subject (be it H1 or H2),
may not even be taken into account in your computation of RP,
unless …
can help to improve your overall results.
3)
we do not have any more mid year exam. But, some Junior College(s) may still conduct mini Term tests, AFTER
your 2024 (JC 1) June school holiday has ended.
Because
JAE students only start their new JC Term 1 on
2 February 2024 (Friday), so
in some Junior College(s), they said that
After June 2024 June school holiday has ended :-
a) Term 2 mini-tests constitute
… 10 percent,
b) Term 3 mini-tests constitute
… 20 percent,
c) Term 4 EOY (end of year) exam constitute
… 70 percent.
RP : Rank points admission, into universities -
For one school, the A Level H2 Distinction Rates are mostly between 6 in 10 and 8 in 10 (at least for one year). I don’t believe there is much of a pattern or difference when you look at the Arts vs. Sciences subjects. Obviously, there is a huge selection bias that cannot be fully corrected for. And this is only one school, which has its own factors as well.
If someone knows what the distribution looks like nationally, please share (although every year we get less and less info, so everything is starting to become dated at this point).
Regardless, for a number of reasons, I also believe it is best to select based one’s own interest and ability (and not on the prior cohorts’ distinction rates). -
Agree.
1. Interest
2. If indifference or enjoy both, choose the one which you can do better in exam, or less effort in studying. -
any experienced private tutor here give H2 Econs (A level) tuition, at student’s house? You have a contact number ?

Hi
I have a question on ACJC subject combination.
Are we allowed to take MEP, ELEP and DEP + Math as a combination?
I am asking because there are 3 elective courses in the list. Is there any rule on number of elective courses that a student can take ?
Thank you.

The school is in the best position to answer you. Email the school to ask

(From 2025) Junior colleges will no longer share detailed academic results with their A-level cohorts
