Normally were there many students who would retake at year end?

I was told before (friends kids in o level) that they can’t retake the oral exam, so if the oral exam is not a distinction, their teachers told them not to bother retaking the written paper because the final grade is not likely to improve. Not sure how true irl.

And o level HMT students also take the MT exam only once. I think.

I dont have the stats. But presumably the ones who die die have to retake are those who didnt clear the min D7 but still aiming for JC. So what will happen to them going forward? Only one chance to meet the JC prerequisite? Desperate must pay for MT tuition?

There is also another issue here, which doesnt seem to have been considered. Now the year-end exams will have 1 more subject (MT) for the students to handle. Whereas previously they could spend first half prepping for MT and then 2nd half on the other subjects.

I think if you get e8 for Mtl, you can still go to pre u, and resit in jc1. I just googled.
This is the same as ip students who do mt (1 try) and got an e8, they will go on to jc1 and retake o level mt, I think if I recalled one of the non sap ip presentation slides correctly.

H1 MT is taken at JC1 year end, can’t possibly take it in mid JC1 as you would have just studied for 3 months.
If you fail (I do not know the fail grade), you will retake it in JC2.

If MOE change the system to permit only \"one Mother tongue exam can take place\", then,

the June month will be removed by MOE, leaving only the November year end Mother tongue exam, to take place.

Why ?

Because

1)
The O-level June month MT paper set is always easier than the November year end MT.


2)
And Sec 3 HCL students always take the November year end pu-hua or Standard Chinese (O-level).

So, with the new changes introduced, that means

Sec 4 O-level students will take pu-hua (O-level) together with the

Sec 3 HCL students, who are also taking the pu-hua (O-level) paper too, in November year-end.

Once O-level (pu hua or Standard Chinese) results are released in second week of January 20xx, students who have scored an \" E8 \" for O-level (pu hua) -

can still enter Junior Colleges under provisional, conditional entry and take Chinese exam again in JC (1).

a)
If they fail Chinese in JC (1), student will be transferred over to Millienia Institute (MI), to complete his (her) A level. And to re-take his Chinese exam another time, while doing MI.


b)
If they pass Chinese in JC (1), then, case closed. Student will remain inside JC, as per normal.

Hi Reenie,

Here are some advice/procedures for reference:

1. 审题 analyze the question and understand what it's looking out for
- e.g. 如何...... /怎么样才能...... type of questions requires you to state the methods/process/procedures, whereas
为何....../有什么好处 type of questions requires you to state the reasons/benefits/consequences

2. (Based on the direction from step 1) Start looking out for 6 - 8 relevant pointers, as content component for 片段缩写 is worth 8 marks and each marks is usually worth 1 mark each. Do not worry too much about the word count at this point in time. Otherwise, there is a possibility/tendency that you might leave out important content.

3. Make a quick word count on the (6-8) pointers you found. It should be ~100-110++. If it exceeds 120 words, then chances are, there are redundant pointers in what you search for in step 2. In that case, instead of proceeding to reduce the word count, you should re-evaluate those pointers you found and omit 1-2 of them.

4. When you try to reduce the word count, prioritize language expression and try not to touch the content, otherwise you might end up losing marks from that content component (i.e. 8 out of 12). The students would have been taught how to do this, for example, 如果 can be minimized as 如 or 若，应该 —— 应，能够 —— 能 as well as the appropriate use of \", \" and \"、\"to connect pointers or sentence components.

5. Make sure what the question asked for is mentioned. For example, if the question is “如何面对失败”and you start immediately with “我们应该......”then, you failed to set/bring out the theme点题. This will affect the language expression/grammar component (i.e. 4 out of 12). Another area that may affect the grading for this component is inappropriate use of \",\" in an attempt to save word count. Sometimes, there's no choice but to start off listing out the pointer(s) in new sentences.
