DSA 2024

I would say dsa is not as daunting in the low/mid double digit school as compared to say the IP schools. If parents are accepting that these low/mid double digit schools are also good and don’t waste their three choices, then there is a good chance if the kid has somewhat a portfolio/skill set to portray in the dsa selection exercise.
For the IP schools (at least from the one I am v familiar with), the success rate is indeed quite low. Even a pri school team table tennis player that I knew, who represented the Sch in zonal tournaments and won (top 4 zonal), was not even selected to join the IP school team as a CCA. Obviously her dsa journey was also unsuccessful. This shows how coveted the spots are.
For my own child’s dsa journey, I would say besides the child, the parent (aka me) also put in a lot of effort to support/facilitate the child in the journey with preparation over many years. -
Agree with Imp75 and floppy.
Choose wisely, every kid only has three DSA chances.
Go to a few non-IP but still reputable and popular schools open houses. Find out about their flagship prog and observe the students to get a better sensing. As parents, we will know if that is the right school for our child. -
DSA RI Math
My child’s Math award
1.RIPMWC P5 Distinguish
2.RMO P6 Merit (did not do well at trial as too many homework. He did it in the midnight of the last day of deadline)
3.NMOS P5 Bronze
4. Numerous ICAS/Reach: Outstanding/ Merit since P3 after passing GEP round 1
P5 School transcript (math1, science 2, English 5, Chinese 5). But he is top 3 in his class
Any chance for RI DSA Math?
Any suggestion?
Thank you very much. -

For Math domain, in top ip school, will be shortlisted for a test. Except NUSH where, u apply they will test you. For RI and HCI, there will be a 1st round of selection before test. Nobody is able to tell you the chances as we all dont know how they select.
So is, you don't try you won't know. All the best and good luck! -
Hi Parents,
Would like to ask about rhythmic gymnastics for DSA. I note that schools with RG for DSA are the following four:
PLMGS, RGS, CHIJ TP & CHIJ SNGS.
For success applicants, can share your strategy?
DD is now 6 and we are investing 4 days a week with an external RG. Apart from just aiming to win at competitions, I do think that connections plus following the right coach aka head coach of the dream school is important.
For external classes, did you follow the coaches that are head coaches of the DSA schools?
I.e. I read from Releve gym website that the the founder is also the head coach with CHIJ St Nicks.
We are aiming for RGS but cant find info on the RGS head coach. Appreciate it if anyone can help shed some light, thank you! -

Could have a look at the past 1-3 years DSA threads. Quite a number of parents have shared profiles of their kids who successfully DSAed to RI via math domain. Just search keywords RI math.

Nobody here in this forum is able to answer your question :
\"so, what is my chance of getting into RI ? \"
Why ?
Because
Nobody knows what's going to be the competition rate, this year. None of us here in this forum is from the RI selection interview panel in Maths, or represent RI selection interview outcome panel, correct ? True ?
So, if your son is really interested in RI, what is stopping him from applying ? Just proceed, to apply.
See, every parent think their child is great, with whatever their kid has achieved. But don't forget, u are competiting with not 1, but several thousands of applicants for the same domain. After all, In Chinese, isn't there a saying, that goes like this :-
\" yi shan bi yi shan gao \" !
Meaning ...
One mountains is always higher, than another. -
Hi all, any one knows about DSA Judo to HC,RI,SJI? My son has AL13 for P5 EOY. He is quite good in his Judo, brown belt, won gold in all club competitions. Should he even try HC and RI ?

Hi there. AL13 may be slightly higher than the expected grade for either HC and RI. Minimally must be top3 in the Nationals and deemed capable to handle the IP course. Iirc, last year (sec1 in 2023) RI took in ZERO for Judo and 2 only in 2022. So it means even if u are the best, no guarantees.

Perhaps AL13 can be mitigated by midyr P5 or P4? So… no harm just try lah. Big question is does ur son train in SA Judo (HC) or TDJ (RI) or neither? Coach can help advise and speak to the teacher-in-charge to put up their respective case.
On the other hand, SJI (under SOJ) may have higher probability of acceptance. Hope this helps and all the best! -

We should see DSA is a means to get into our dream school. It is not about shopping around for cheap deals. -

I was trying to caution as some parents put all three schools of same tier when kids achievements are comparably not so outstanding.
Agree, dsa is for some kids with talent to aim to get into their one dream school. Not many dream schools. Edited.
Added:
1 dream sch + 2 realistic schools vs
3 dream schools
Know a kid, didn't get into dream sch but now enjoying and his talent is recognised in realistic school and getting good opportunities and exposure. Parents are very thankful. -

Hi AHsDad, thanks for your insight. Definitely helps! From your reply, RI should b out of our league. My son with SA judo. Been talking to the coaches at the academy but their replies are very generic. Like grades must be AL 6 below, say HCI see grades first. Maybe must talk to the head coach directly & attend open house in May.

Hi, need advice. What are the chances of my son gaining admission to NUSH if he hasn’t participated in math/science olympiad training? his school results for math is always above 90.

The chances of your son entering NUS High, will depend on his ability, to clear the internal tests administered by the school itself.
Your son's results above 90 : is not important. What's important is, he must sit for NUSH tests & passed them. -
Hi,
Anyone that has experience on DSA STEM for DHS?
Considering STEM is a broad area, how are the selection rounds conducted?
Are there group interviews, essays or maths tests conducted?
What are the chances when DD is only good at Maths? -
Hi Parents, am checking for experiences for English DSA. My dd has not participated in any writing contests, but has love for English language. Also consistently good results for English ( though understand good is subjective) She is competitive in sports and it was a sudden change in P6 this year that she decided not to DSA using the same sport she is competing in, and we respect and support her decision not to. It has gotten too hard physically and now its “boring” . She wishes to spend time trying other areas she is interested in. We did not think of using DSA and this just occured to me, but English has been her favourite subject all long from P1 till now and she is coping fine. Are there any specific pre entry requisites for English? If she is not going to be considered at all since she has no prior awards or English writing / speaking competition accolade, I will wish to manage her expecations first and talk to her , if she still wants to give it a shot. Any advise and feedback will be appreciated! Thank you!

Hi if anyone has a child who has been accepted by RI or HCI in the science domain, can you share what are his credentials? Any idea how many spots RI or HCI offer for DSA via the science domain?
-
For Science DSA to HCI or RI, are the questions pegged to primary or secondary level? Will there be any questions on physics, chemistry or bio?
-
Hi,
Can any parents share about DSA for Eng and Sci to MGS IP?
Every year how many DSA student MGS takes in for IP program?
Thank you!
