Application for NUS/NTU Medicine 2024/2025

One would think the interview would sieve them out no matter how impressive are their portfolios.
So for the rest of us average Joes who work hard towards our dream, an offer from NTU and WL from NUS would be alr a great deal anyone can dream of.

The portfolios aside, it is the job interview to determine your life. YLL seems to be more qualitative over quantitative but then again, LKC also surprisingly didn’t even call for interviews for very very good grades. It’s a black box. For those who have any offers, just count blessings !

No worry. It will not happen.
NUS addressed this concern during last year May zoom session, to those on NUS wait list but have already received NTU offer.
Go ahead to accept NTU offer while waiting NUS wait list outcome during end-May.

But unlike 1st round offer during end-Apr / early May where have a few weeks to think & decide accept offer. Those on wait list once notified of offer have only two to three days to decide. If email to students dont have response, parent will be called.

Happy to say that DD received offers from both NTU and NUS, Praise the Lord! DD is leaning towards NUS because of the recent separation between NTU and ICL and also because of the residential college life. Maybe the Meet and Greet session will shine some light on both Schools, only problem is both meet and greet sessions for NUS and NTU coincide at the same timing. It sounds like the schools are forcing those with offers to choose who they want to commit to early.

Since she prefers NUS, just go with her gut feel. All the best to her!

It definitely seems like both med schools are competing and forcing kids to pick one.

We are not too concerned about ICL separation. DD prefers the TBL based teaching approach compared to traditional lectures, and the NTU curriculum is well established enough for NUS to adopt similar method in their med school.

Could you share the concern about residential college life in NTU?

The number on wait list is not secret, published on NUS medicine portal. The number is 70.

The same question was prompt to A/Prof Marion Aw during last year zoom session by NUS with wait list candidates on 8 May 2023.
How many of the 70 will be successful?
The wait list has \"weight\", many in the wait list will not be disappointed. My guess is between 50 to 60.

For 2023/24 NUS intake, total 280 for NUS Yong Loo Lin (Male: 134, Female:146), dentistry total 80 (Male: 31, Female: 49)

Not first hand info, and those in the know please jump in.
Nus is using in person lectures - tutorials learning method but ntu is using pre-recording lessons. For some students they have own preference.
Still, it is a happy problem. Congrats.

I will state the facts, NUS is preferred.
I am amazed by support fr the NUS fraternity. Their financial aid support is solid.

The \"wait list\" students felt the big difference last year.
NUS actively engaged wait-list students with zoom session & on-campus meet session, cos NUS wait-list has \"weight\".
While NTU did not have any follow-up for wait-list, other than email during late-june to wait-list student that an offer is made, & student given only 2 days to decide acceptance.

I see... so your support is based on engagement of waitlisted candidates. Not student support system or curriculum or learning facilities.

Congratulations! Your DD must have worked very hard!

Regarding residential college life, DD mentioned that NTU Medicine campus is very segregated with the rest of NTU. NTU Medicine campus is located at Novena while main NTU campus is at Jurong. Main concern is that she's worried she won't be given opportunities to interact with the students from other faculties as she will mostly be at the Novena NTU Medicine campus. Also, the NTU Medicine students will all be allocated to the same hall, if they choose to stay in campus.

DD and I also think that NTU intentionally wants the Medicine students to flock together and not meet the other kids on campus so that they are entirely focused on being doctors.

DD really treasures having a good social life as since secondary school, she has been too focused and fixated only on academics and now wants to have a last shot at living a fulfilling social life at the University level before she enters the workforce.

Regardless, main goal of both NTU and NUS is to nurture proficient doctors, college life is just an added benefit. I believe NTU has its own separate benefits compared to NTU and that having the opportunity to study Medicine is very lucky and fortunate.
