For NTU med candidates and parents - how many of you are looking to stay in the NTU accommodation (Crescent and Pioneer Hall)?

My DD will be looking to book NTU accommodation and hopefully she is paired with another incoming med student.
I heard that you could put preferred names for room buddy when doing applications for residence.

Let me know if anyone is interested in sharing Double Aircon Room with my DD.
Shoot me a PM, and we can discuss things privately.

      Cheers!

        Hi Parents,

After the meet-and-greet meeting held on last Saturday from both medicine school, did your DS/DD change their minds about choosing medicine school? 😆

LKC is welcoming and pulling out all stops to ensure the offer holders make an informed choice ( and not just hearsay). There’s a premed tele group with seniors for the offer holders who attended.

YLL is promoting that they are reviving … and seem to only trump with prestige card. My feel is they are probably taken by surprise.

Very vibrant and insightful takeaways going on in Reddit.

Just objectively as a parent, how the current students respond is indicative too of the education journey and the peers ours will have in the coming years.

Thanks for sharing the link. Interesting read... For some, the sharing at Redxxt... may cause more confusion than clarity..... Haha... Either way, it is win win for all.... Those with both offers if reject one, those on waitlist get offered

It’s life. Messy, chaotic and never in beautifully wrapped packages. All the more complex if they are going into this endurance marathon, better a strong mind and good heart.
It’s good to hear the insights and let our children make up their own minds.

The number on wait list is not secret, published on NUS medicine portal. The number is 70.
                See under \"selection process\"
                https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/prospective-students/nus-medicine-admissions-assessment/
The same question was prompt to A/Prof Marion Aw during last year zoom session by NUS with wait list candidates on 8 May 2023.
How many of the 70 will be successful?
The wait list has \"weight\", many in the wait list will not be disappointed. My guess is between 50 to 60.

For 2023/24 NUS intake, total 280 for NUS Yong Loo Lin (Male: 134, Female:146), dentistry total 80 (Male: 31, Female: 49)
How about Dentistry waitlist? Do you know roughly how many are in the waitlist each year and what is the chance of getting an offer?

You may want to take this into consideration, talk to current and former dentistry students to verify what’s is really on the ground.

If really true, it will be very sad if our kids may have to suffer like that.
Perhaps, not having the WL converted may be a blessing to have dodged a bullet. So please do your own due diligence for the child’s interest.

Wow, I just read this lucid!
Its traumatic to even read and imagine what the young kids are going through for taking a course they wanted to pursue with passion.

Really saddened to hear it's not something new but has been happening for many years. Toxic culture {bullying, calling names, not supporting or ignoring people in need, ostracizing (excluding from group), purposefully failing because they stand out, demoralizing or demeaning behaviors - be it place of study or work} should be weeded out. No student should be left unsupported. My heart goes out to those who suffered or are at present going through this.

My DD wasn't interested in dentistry, but other students who aspire to take dentistry but are deterred because of unsupportive education environment - is absolutely unacceptable.

As parents, what can we do to bring this to limelight - so that the existing and future students do not have to face this again? Will bringing this to local media's attention work?

Wonder if anyone tried to reach out to MOE or the ministers to request an investigation and seek reform..

Was definitely an interesting read and insightful.
For double offer holders - please share which med school you finally chose to firm and accept 🙂
