I would like to address the Suzuki vs. Traditional violin question, as a traditionally trained musician who has taught Suzuki violin for the last 30 years.

When you are looking for a teacher for you child you would like to find one that:
-Can play their instrument on a professional level, so they can inspire your child
-Will provide private lessons, so the program can move at your child's pace
-Will provide group lessons and/or ensemble experience, because peer motivation is a powerful thing

Teachers who have pursued Suzuki teacher training, although not required to call oneself a Suzuki teacher, will be more likely to be able handle very young students. There are many interpretations and implementations of the Suzuki method, but the most important element is the belief that all children can learn to play at a high level of ability, and that it is good for them to develop this ability.
      More information is available at

      Best Wishes,

Were you posting a website address or something? Can't see.

Do you teach very young children?
      Which part of Singapore?
Do you offer an Ensemble group for them to perform together as well?

For suzuki violin lessons, the kids are not required to learn to read notes in the beginning. They are trained to play by ear as well as memory. This allows children as young as 2 years old to start learning the instrument. .

Where are there teachers who take in 2 year old students? Any recommendations? So far, I only find suzuki groups that state 3.5year old.

Are you staying in the West? If so, you can try the Crestar @ Jurong East and enquire if they still accept toddlers for suzuki.

Not from what Mr Kang told me. His youngest student was a toddler. πŸ˜‰ And from other parenting forums, there are also some violin teachers who take in students from 2.5 years old. Can't share with you the contacts cos no names was given.

Wow, you heard about the carpark too? Yup, every time I brought the kids there for lessons, my mood would turn foul whenever we reached the entrance of the carpark. Stress πŸ˜“ Phew, nightmare is finally over for me.

I've been there last time - his previous teacher used to do their concert rehearsals at the Jurong East Centre. Bc I think they combined their JE students with their private class students for concerts. Never liked the carpark at JE.

Why is nightmare over for you? Changed teacher?

Mr Kang as private 1-to-1 teacher? Or group teacher? How to contact Mr Kang or book him as teacher? Have to call the JE Suzuki school? Or do you have the contact? Were your kids under him?
