    • RE: Music Elective Programme (MEP)

      Hi

I would like to know what selection tests a child has to go through to get into DSA MEP? Will there be an audition? If so, how many pieces will he be required to play? Is he allowed to have an accompanist? Will there be a theory test as well? Interview? I also read about a half day camp. Would anyone who has gone through this kindly share their experience? Open House is on 19th May, still a month away and there's not much information on this at the moment. Appreciate your kind input!

      :thankyou:

    • RE: Comparing Science Enrichment Programs

My DS was very fortunate to be under her tutelage since P5. My DS’s P4 form teacher recommended to us when his results dipped in P5 SA1. He was not coping well with the transition from P4 to P5 then. He told us that the tutor and her team are experienced MOE teachers who are also PSLE markers for many years, they have written very good materials and are excellent at explaining the concepts. Besides, this particular lady tutor is very good at motivating and inspiring students. Everything he told us about her has turned out to be true. She has taught my son very well. He looked forward to his weekly lessons, and even initiated to join her English classes. What I also appreciate is the meticulous marking for compositions and Science open-ended questions. All the worksheets are neatly and carefully marked with feedback/ encouragement on the worksheets. It is very hard to find qualified teachers who not only teach well but have a heart for our children. This road to searching for the right tutor for my DS has been fraught with some very bad experiences with irresponsible/dishonest tutors. I’ve also paid for expensive tuition from a ‘branded’ tuition centre only to find out that the class tutor is a fresh graduate. Hope this helps! Julia

Would really appreciate her contact. Anyone who has her contact, kindly share! Thanks!!!

    • RE: Help! I really don't know what we should do to help him

Hi everyone who offered advice, thanks a lot. The replies ended up in the spam box which I don’t usually check. I will monitor the situation closely and keep tabs. I do tell him to be strong as I believe he must learn to stand up for himself. I told him to tell the boy that mum and dad know everything and are watching him closely. Mum is very fierce and sends him to and from school everyday. Dad is super fierce! ( Dad part is very true!) I told him to say that because he told my boy that his brother is fierce! Hope this will dampen his attempts to be rough with my boy. Hope this will turn out well eventually.

Hi, my P1 boy has a classmate who has been hitting him n other classmates. As well as calling others stupid n scolding vulgarities like "f***ing panties"!!! My son told me he only hits when teacher is not around. I spoke to his form teacher about this n she said she has received complaints from other children but says it is rough play. I wish it were true. My boy also told me that his classmate borrowed 80cents from this boy n he told her to pay him back $1.20 the next day!!! I do not want to over react so I have told my boy to stay away from him. But he told me today that his FT changed his seat to the same row as that boy with a girl between them!!! What would u do?

    • RE: BEST of BAK KUT TEH

How to cook bak kut teh? The pre-packed ones contain too much salt for our liking. Adding more water dilutes the taste. Any tried n tested recipes? Thanks for sharing!

What if not sure where is the nest? How to use the citronella spray? My food on the dining table are always invaded by ants. Not sure where they come from.[/quote]

I used to have that problem. I traced the ant back to their nest before I finally eliminated them. The nest was IN the wooden door frame. Really hard to get as there were a few pin sized entrance points. But key is to locate the nest. Another time I found the nest on the underside of the wooden slated table so the ants will join in while we were eating! Carried the table out. Sprayed n washed it. No more ant problem for now.

    • RE: MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni

      verykiasu2010:
what makes the non-active / sleeping alumni special or different from Phase 2C ? they should be treated the same

suggest MOE to come up with policy guidelines on active alumni for them to qualify for alumni priority under Pr 1 registration, eg how many hours of active participation in the last 5 years prior to pri one registration

it will make alumni meaningful, continuing, and perhaps spur some sleeping members to be more active if they pride in being an alumni of a branded school

frankly, if the alumni has never got in touch with the school since graduation, there should be zero priority for such, as they are no different from anyone under Phase 2C

      Agree!
