      of thinking our only option is to join the exact same race, the child should also learn to find each of their own niche

      i don’t set the entry requirement for the race leh…

      immigration policy is beyond my understanding and control
      hahahhahah

      As parents, we can only assist to teach our kids how to navigate his/her race.

        @doodbug

        its is very difficult to tell
        everyone speaks with an accent - let alone looking largely “asian” similar.
        (unless you meet their parents during class gathering…)

        Also, many of the kids’ parents are naturalized Singaporean.
        Their kids (our kids’ classmates) born in SG… boys going to NS in a few years time
        i don’t even know how to classify them.

        and even if MOE has the big data, I don’t think its will be available to us for gossip sessions.

          @skii Usually can tell from the way the name is spelled in the class list/year book. But accent-wise, they speak Singlish lol.

            @skii I have no idea at all as I am not familiar with GEP kids of today lol 🙂 I only know single GEP kids here and there, but don’t know an entire class profile etc.

                @chenlaoshi

                i watched this after the 630pm news.

                In the whole interview, CCS only spoke about the 7% will be increased to 10%

                nothing about the fate of that 1%

                  @skii the 1% will be lumped together with the next 9% and they all learn together. But it won’t affect your child’s batch (unless u have a younger child).

                    @zac-s-mum I can totally picture the parents on xiaohongshu wailing in grief. It is a real pity that the GEP system has been gamed to such an extent by these parents that MOE has decided to throw away the baby with the bath water. Websites like these are dime a dozen on PRC forums:

                    https://bbs.kangaroo.study/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=36

                    I really do suspect that the proportion of non-local GEP kids have been so heavily skewed in recent years that this drastic step has been taken by MOE.

                        @chenlaoshi Thank you for sharing.
                        What makes CCS so sure that by removing the 1% gep and to extend it to 10% HA kids to enjoy the HA program, the GEP prep class conducted by tuition/enrichment centres will go away? In fact, with the selection band widened from 1% to 10% (or higher), the demand for such “GEP-associated” enrichment classes will go up.

                        Will kiasu parents think that my kid used to have just 1% chance of getting into the prog but now since his chance of enjoying a revamped (HA) program has gone up to 10%, the investment is worthwhile?

                        Some might say the top 10% HA program is not a must, waste time. But just look at the number of kids attending expensive tuition at TLL, how many parents aren’t aiming for the top 10% IP places?
