When it comes to JC (1st year) subject combinations, there is no one sized fixed all, standardized rule for all JCs.
If a student didn't take any bio in o levels, can he take up H1 Bio in JC?
Because
IP-JCs requirement, may be different from that of non-IP JCs.
Certain IP-JCs, are very strict, stringent while others are more relaxed!
Can u go to that specific Junior College website, read what it Says there ?
Example
Some JCs will state outfront clearly that, a minimum \"B3\" is required, compulsory for O level Bio, before any student is allowed to take up H2 Bio.
If nothing is mentioned about H1 Bio on that JC website, then call up the HOD ( Bio department), ask them :-
if no Bio taken at O level before, can my child still proceed to take H1 Bio ?
Or
My child must sit for an entrance test first inside the JC for Science, before decision making is made ?
Example
If u compare Hwa Chong Bio requirement, it may differ from that of Yishun-Innova JC (YIJC), for the same A-level Bio subject.
We do not want to anyhow give a sweeping statement wrong answer here regarding \"H1 Bio\" question, in case mislead students / parents. -

Have to check the JC subject combi & also its minimum requirement.

Not sure your reason for opting this, so you might want to check the criteria for your targeted university courses as well.
There is an opinion on H1 bio:

NUS Bio-medical Engineering degree admission only asked for Pass in A-level Maths or Further Maths.
If one is keen to do engineering and possibly biomedical engineering?
Never mentioned anything about Bio, at all. Best that you write in directly to the Dean of Bio-Medical Engineering department, to clarify / confirm.
