Re: All about ortho-k lenses - my daughter's myopia journey

My 10-year-old has been on atropine eye drops, started with 0.01% and now at 0.025%. She’s also tried myopia control glasses such as Stellest (Essilor), MiYOSMART (Hoya), and most recently MyoCare S (Zeiss). But her power is still going up quite fast . It’s already -4.00 and -4.75 as of Sept 2025, and I’m getting quite worried.

I’m now considering Ortho-K as the next step. Do you think it could help slow things down? I’ve only found some older threads about Ortho-K (pre-2020), so I’d really appreciate hearing from parents with more recent experiences.

@HNS2015 My 14yo is on Atropine 0.01% + myopia control glasses. He started several years ago, and things have held steady.

Our eye specialist did tell us about Ortho K during our earlier visits. But as it was something new for my son (and I was afraid he might not find the lens comfortable), I opted to wait and see. Now it appears it’s not needed… so a bit different from your case!

Is your daughter seeing an eye specialist?

Hi hi, yes , my daughter is seeing the eye specialist at KKH Eye Centre . Since she is already on Atropine 0.025%, the eye doc wants her to increase the dosage by putting 2 drops per day.

Do you remember what was the prescription of your 14yo at that time when he started atropine and what it is now?

Hi! Sorry I took some time to get back on this, as I needed to check my son’s past eye test results.

I first took him to the specialist in 2022.

Around that time, his vision for R and L eye was -2.50 SPH — this is the ChatGPT explanation:

In Apr 2025, there was actually a slight improvement for his right eye, which is now -2.25. Left eye remains the same.

He didn’t change his viewing habits much, so it’s really down to the Atropine.

Hi, thanks for taking time to check your son’s past eye test results. It’s encouraging to hear there’s some improvement in his right eye. He is really responding well to Atropine! I’m hoping my daughter’s power will also be under control since she’s now on Atropine twice a day.
