For those who don’t know what to do with your expiring SkillsFuture credits, a colleague of mine told me what he is doing, and I thought it’s a good idea to share:
Just buy a 1-yr subscription to Udemy with the credits (costs about $499 or something like that!). As long as the subscription year starts before 31 Dec, you can then use it for the full year. I think you can also do this with a Coursera subscription, also about the same price.

I also decided to see what annual subscription I could use my expiring SF credits on. I have signed up for this one:
EdX and Ngee Ann Poly
https://stms.polite.edu.sg/student/ihlcourse/detail/993e9e57-2c5b-4d5e-b25a-f8e42b9bf3b9Access to courses on a variety of topics (including more “arts” ones, not all science, biz and IT) for a year for $216.91. I had $185 expiring, and I still had over $400 left of those non-expiring credits. Will try out a couple when I have time!

I’m starting on my specialist dip next week — I had the orientation last week. It’ll be 3x per week (weeknights), but thankfully mostly online classes.
Haven’t done this in a while, so still bracing myself for the time commitment!
That’s great! All the best for your specialist dip! It’s not easy juggling studies again, but online classes, has some flexibility. Jiayou!
As for me, I haven’t been actively looking for any course since completing my last one in June 🤭
I’ll probably be more available during the school holidays since I don’t have to rush around to pick the kids, settle their lunch, and bring them for tuition. But no hurry for now as my SkillsFuture credits aren’t expiring anytime soon

Just wanted to update on this — it’s pretty tiring to have evening classes 3x a week (6.30-9.30PM), even though it’s online! Most classmates are working full-time too.
Definitely looking forward to the upcoming school break, even if it’s just two weeks

I took out a EdX subscription, but haven’t had time to do any of the courses yet. Been busy with work, a trip, etc. Hope to take at least one course next week when my current freelance project is done. My husband took out a Udemy subscription, and has embarked on a 100-day (supposedly) Python course - that is something I wouldn’t take even if you bribed me extravagantly!

@slmkhoo I probably have an unfinished Python course in my Udemy list too, can’t remember if it’s 30 or 100 days hahahaha! Hoping my 14yo will take over.
I had a taste of Python when I did my data engineering bootcamp in 2023. That was also when many of us first heard about ChatGPT and actually it was a very good coding tutor!
I thought it was fun, but also felt that I was very late into the game haha. I did get to use it a bit when I subsequently had a tech traineeship, for data cleaning.
It’s something that I might tinker around with if I had a lot of time, but it’s just one item in a very long to-do list, including tons of books to read and movies to watch!

Popping in to share that I just finished my first paper for my current course (a specialist diploma in career counselling).
We had to do APA-style referencing — not something we’d like to relive, that’s for sure. But thankfully there’s AI to the rescue these days!
It’s quite a brain workout to read academic papers again, I must say. In my previous specialist diploma, I did business analytics, which was more about using tools and setting up a workstream to analyse big data — we didn’t have to care so much about how we phrased things, and there was hardly any need to reference.
I’m still very glad that I signed up for this course; it’s actually useful for improving how I deal with the people around me as well. However, it will make me think twice, just in case I should want to sign up for grad school all over again! I think I will hold off “heavy” courses for the later part of 2026, and focus on fun stuff like photography, drums, zine making

I’m doing the reverse - in that I’m having to “retrain” myself to craft carousels to post on IG! My usual style is not so suited for that (as those who’ve read a lot of posts here will know). I’m using AI (Copilot) to edit my drafts to make them more contemporary in style!
I’m fine with preparing bibliographies (any style) - I used to be a librarian!

@thebottomsupblog I’m about a third of the way through a course entitled “Masterpieces of World Literature”. Quite interesting, but there’s a quiz (20 MCQs) at the end of every work presented. I do a section when I have time.
