Hi everyone! I think many of us are signing up for different types of workshops/courses, and it’d be really interesting to hear what we’re all gaining from our experiences. Do share them here!

        Public service announcement:
        The One-Time SkillsFuture Top-Up in 2020 expires on 31 Dec 2025!

For those who were 21 and older in 2020, you will have received this top-up. It’s the only tranche of SkillsFuture Credit that expires. If you haven’t used them yet, there’s still a few months to take a course or two.

Note: The opening amount of $500, and the $4000 Mid-Career credits do not expire, so if you haven’t used them yet, there’s no great hurry.

If you plan to take SkillsFuture courses soon (whether to use up the expiring credits or other credits), please share them here! It may give others an idea of what they could try.

I’ll start: I’ve just applied to take a 2-day WSQ Digital Copywriting & Content Writing Course at Equinet (still waiting for confirmation). Since I’m over 40, after all the subsidies, it costs just under $300 which I’ll use my credits to pay, which leaves me with about $200 which I think I’ll have to allow to expire. One of my colleagues suggested that we try a baking course, but I’m not sure if we will get round to it. I also explored taking a course on mending (clothes), but it’s part of a full “artisan” course which is too long and too complex for me, and they won’t let me just take that individual course.

        Do share other ideas!

@slmkhoo Haha I love this topic!

My husband took an iPhone photography course.

I maxed out my 1.5k SkillsFuture credit on these:

As I’m also over 40, I’m using a portion of the new 4K on another specialist diploma (career counselling):

I have gfs who used their credits on self-defence courses, floral arrangement workshops.

@thebottomsupblog Great that you are making good use of them. I am too old to think about career conversion (already over 60), so I’ve just mentally written off the $4000 as unusable. I was just talking to my friends recently, and we said how nice it would be if we could pass them to our kids (still in their 20s) instead.

So I’ve just taken a few short courses here and there based on where I feel a need a boost!

@slmkhoo Yes I think we will all use these credits very differently, depending on our life seasons!

My friend said she signed up here, for self-defence:

For me, I’m hopeful that there will be a second local degree subsidy for over 40s… we’ll see!

I used up my $500 credits on a 2-day Generative AI course in June – super interesting! 😄 Now I’m hoping to find some shorter weekday courses (like 9am–12noon) that I can slot in more easily. Anyone here tried any good ones to recommend? Keen to hear what you all are taking too!

I did a similar course last year. It seems most of the multi-day courses are full-day ones. What areas are you interested in?

Thanks! Yes, it would be great if there’s a short course on understanding how children think, react, and behave. I’m keen in learning more about their mindset and behavior.”

@HNS2015 Did you find a suitable course? 🙂

I’m starting on my specialist dip next week — I had the orientation last week. It’ll be 3x per week (weeknights), but thankfully mostly online classes.

Haven’t done this in a while, so still bracing myself for the time commitment!

@thebottomsupblog Good for you! I was thinking of doing a 2-day baking course with a colleague, but we waited too long - the dates was want are not available now! The remaining dates don’t work for us.

I’m bracing myself to take a course from an overseas provider with live online sessions - 11pm to 1am once a week! Only 8 sessions, but my bedtime is usually 11pm, so it’s going to be hard. I haven’t committed to it yet, but will have to decide soon as it starts in Jan. And I can’t use SkillsFuture, of course, so the course fee will come out of my own pocket.
