DSA applications are ongoing, till June 2!

Still wondering whether the DSA is the right path for your child? This is the time to think it through.

          Some useful questions:
💭 Does my child show qualities or skills that could help them do well in this area?
💭 Compared to other children their age, are they progressing more quickly?
💭 Are they being selected for competitions, either by their schools or enrichment coaches?

In our recent KiasuParents Huddle webinar on the DSA, parents also asked: What if my child doesn’t have a clear interest? Watch our panellists answer this question.

If you missed the live session, you can still watch the full recording. For DSA season, we’re offering it at 50% off till June 2.

Taught CCA in neighbourhood schools for 12 years. Every year, same pattern — families either assume DSA isn’t for them, or only start preparing after the trial invitation comes in. By then, most of the groundwork should already be done.

Here’s what I want neighbourhood school parents to hear: both my children got into the top 4 schools via DSA with double-digit AL scores. Not because they were exceptional students. Because they were genuinely strong in what they did, and we knew how to use the system.

Most families don’t know the system exists for them. That’s the only difference.

If you’re not sure whether your child qualifies or which schools accept their talent area, there’s a free search tool: dsalink.sg/dsa-finder

Two weeks left. Ask me anything.

@randomblackore CCA DSA competitiveness varies a lot depending on the sport or activity, and the school.

For top 4 schools, yes — the bar is high. They’re looking at kids who represent their school or club at zonal/national level, not just active participants.

But for many other good schools, CCA DSA is genuinely accessible for kids who are consistent, coachable, and show real passion for what they do. I’ve seen kids who weren’t the most talented in the room get offers because they listened, adjusted, and carried themselves well during trials.

What CCA is your child in? The dynamics are quite different across sports, performing arts, and other areas.

@JensonTan English DSA portfolios are tricky because schools are looking for genuine voice, not polished tutor-guided pieces.

A few things that actually help:
                — Include work from different contexts — school assignments, personal writing, competition entries. Shows range.
                — One or two pieces that took creative risk are worth more than five safe, technically correct ones.
                — If she has any published work, blog, or writing that got external recognition — include it.

The interview matters as much as the portfolio. They’ll ask her to talk about her writing, why she made certain choices. She needs to own every piece in there.
