      “A Lion City’s Love Letter”

If a friend came from lands afar,
I’d meet them where the Merlion stars.
Not just for photos, bright and grand,
But to say, “Welcome to my homeland.”

We’ll stroll where Gardens bloom at night,
Trees that sparkle in magical light.
The Marina sky, the river’s glow,
A city where old and new both grow.

Then to Lau Pa Sat we’d happily roam,
Where every flavour feels like home.
      Satay sizzling beneath the night,
      Laughter dancing in warm streetlight.

As evening falls, we’d find a seat,
By Marina Bay where hearts can meet.
      Watching fireworks paint the air,
Reminding us joy is meant to share.

Because Singapore isn’t just what you see,
      It’s kindness, hope, and unity.
A little red dot, proud and free—
Forever home, forever part of me. ❤️🇸🇬 mkn

If my overseas friend visits Singapore, I would bring them to a heartland HDB neighbourhood in Toa Payoh — where the true spirit of Singapore comes alive. I want them to experience the familiar sights and sounds of our everyday lives: the void decks where neighbours connect, the playgrounds where children grow and create memories, the shops bustling with conversations, and the community spaces that bring people of different backgrounds together. We would then enjoy local delights at a nearby makan place, just like any true-blue Singaporean. Through these simple moments, they will discover that Singapore is more than our iconic skyline — it is the warmth of the people who call it home.

I love taking my overseas friends to Wessex Estate because it instantly shows them a peaceful, nostalgic side of Singapore most tourists completely miss. This idyllic neighborhood is full of beautiful 1930s black-and-white colonial houses that now serve as creative spaces for local artists. It is my favorite spot for a quiet stroll away from the city crowds, especially followed by a vintage bite and a cold drink at the retro Colbar Café.

I would bring my overseas friend to East Coast Park to enjoy the cooling wind, looking at planes taking off in the distance and seeing kids building sandcastles, also looking at the big kites being flown in the distance. After that, we will go to East Coast Lagoon Food Village to enjoy the aromatic satay, duck rice, carrot cake and sambal stingray.

I’d take them to Raffles Marina at sunset. Most visitors expect Singapore to be all skyscrapers, but this view tells a deeper story. Standing by the sea, you can watch ships anchored outside one of the world’s busiest ports, with the city skyline glowing in the distance. It reminds you that Singapore’s success was built on its maritime heritage and global connectivity. As the sky turns shades of orange and blue, the city feels surprisingly peaceful. It’s a place that captures both Singapore’s ambition and its tranquility.

I take them to MBS to see the skyline, to eat hawker food at the foodcourt, get free drink from the casino 😂. Since most people arrive via changi airport. Jewel is also another must go!
