Should Children Start Tuition in Primary 1?

This is a question we’re often asked by new Primary 1 parents:
“Should I enrol my child in tuition now, or wait until they start struggling?”
From our experience, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.
Some children adapt quickly to Primary School, while others need more time to adjust to the faster pace, independent learning, and increased expectations in English and Chinese.

We generally encourage parents to look out for signs such as:

• Losing confidence in class.
• Finding homework is increasingly difficult.
• Needing a lot of help to complete assignments.
• Avoiding reading or writing activities.

Tuition shouldn’t simply be about getting ahead. It should help children build confidence, develop good study habits, and strengthen their understanding before small gaps become larger ones.
