Happy Tuesday! Hope all families and parents have had a great start to the work week so far

We have just released an article discussing the topic of filial piety in a changing world and whether respecting our parents still means the same thing.
For generations, many Asian children grew up with an idea that required little explanation: We should be filial to our parents. Respect your elders. Listen to your parents. Care for them when they grow old. Remember the sacrifices they made. Do not forget where you came from.
For many families, these values remain deeply meaningful. They speak to gratitude, loyalty and a sense that family relationships should not simply disappear when children become independent adults.
Yet the meaning of filial piety is becoming less straightforward. Does respecting our parents mean obeying them even after we become adults? Does being filial mean providing money, even if the relationship has never been emotionally close?
Can an adult child disagree with a parent, establish boundaries or choose a completely different life and still be considered filial? And perhaps most importantly, should filial piety be understood as a debt children owe, or as a relationship that both generations continue nurturing?
These questions do not necessarily suggest that filial piety is disappearing. They may instead suggest that its meaning is evolving.
Research in Singapore has similarly described contemporary filial piety as broader than traditional prescribed duties, with family support increasingly shaped by relationships, resources and the actual needs of ageing parents.
Perhaps the challenge for the next generation is not deciding whether filial piety should survive. It is deciding what should survive within it.

Happy Thursday! Hope all families and parents are looking forward to the end of work week

We have just released an article discussing the topic of what fulfilment looks like when children grow up and enter the working world.
For much of childhood, success is relatively easy to define. There are grades. Awards. School placements. Competitions. Clear milestones. Parents and teachers can point towards the next target and say, βWork towards that.β
Then adulthood arrives. The structure becomes less obvious. A young person enters the working world and discovers that there is no single report card explaining whether life is going well. Salary offers one measure. Job title offers another. Prestige, promotions and professional recognition offer others.
But none of them completely answer a much larger question: Am I actually fulfilled by the life I am building? This question matters because many young people spend their entire childhood preparing to enter the working world, yet comparatively little time discussing what they hope to find once they arrive.
At Educare Tutoring, we believe education should prepare children not only to secure opportunities, but also to make thoughtful choices about which opportunities are worth pursuing. A successful adulthood is not simply one in which a person achieves more. It is one in which achievement contributes to a life that feels meaningful.

Happy Saturday! Hope all families and parents have had a great start to the weekend

We have just released a guide for Singapore parents which focuses on the topic of whether children may require more tuition.
It can begin with a casual conversation. Another parent mentions an extra Mathematics class, a new English tutor or a weekend enrichment programme. Suddenly, you wonder whether your child should be doing more too.
For parents in Singapore, deciding how much tuition is enough can be difficult. You want to support your childβs progress while leaving room for rest, interests and family time.
A recent Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) study brings this tension into focus. Published on 25 September 2026, it surveyed 1,500 Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident parents with children in local primary schools. It compared selected findings with a 2016 survey.
As CNA reported, parents increasingly value holistic development, yet tuition expenditure and parental stress have risen. Mean monthly tuition expenditure was S$677 in 2026, compared with an inflation-adjusted figure of approximately S$386 in 2016. These were separate surveys, rather than a study following the same families over time.
These findings invite a practical question: how can parents choose learning support that addresses their childβs needs?
