Hi, needed some suggestions on my current situation as such:
I’m currently residing in Jurong and looking for a place to move. I planned to move out by this october not wanting to miss the boat to fetch a good price for my property now.
Since I have a child aged 3, I intend to move to an area within 1km from a good school to prepare early for the competitive P1 registration.
I’ve shortlisted 2 schools after much researching of their past balloting history in line to the vicinity that I’d like to reside in. Both schools are in the top 10 list of primary schools.
School A: My preferred choice as I like the vicinity of the area. Only starting the PV selection next year for my child born in 2007.
School B: My 2nd choice as I prefer the location at School A. However, they are able to accept PV registration now and able to notify me in 2 weeks whether I’m selected for the PV programme.
Generally, I’ll go ahead to apply to be the PV for School B since I’m able to know the answer in 2 weeks time. Then, it’ll be pretty straight forward that I should move within 1km from School B to increase the chances if I’m selected to be their PV.
My concerns now lies if School B does not accept my application, and School A can only wait till next year to send in the application, which the outcome is still yet to know whether they will accept my application. In the event if I moved there and not get accepted after the application, I’ll be at a dilemma.
Any advice what I can do, as I’ve not given up hope on School A?
Would it be a good idea to write in to School A to consider my application earlier be it they accept or reject my application?
If they accept, I can always start the pv next year, but that would be happy days for me since I get to stay in the area I like + school of my choice?
If they reject, I can then look for other alternatives without the risk of waiting.
Thanks -
IMO, no reason for any school to make the exception for you and risk opening a flood-gate.
If you want to be sure, then you can consider
- selling & moving after PV is confirmed
- selling & moving to rental for the time being
Else, you can always forget about school A and settle with school B instead.
Good Luck ! -

Hi all
Please give me advise
I am staying in Jurong West, within 1km from West Groove and jurong West Primary school.
My mum stay in Clementi and she is currently helping me look after my girl.
Every morning I will bring my girl to my mum hse and will have dinner at her place and go home.
My girl is 2005 kids and due to register in year 2011.
Should I :
A : register her in Jurong School ; both West Groove or Jurong West have good review, if morning scetion, its more convident to take her to school and take school bus to clementi in Afternoon. If afternoon section, need to take school bus to and fro clementi Jurong. When got CCA, my mother wil have to go Jurong to fetch her home.
B : Nan Hua, which is a super hot school, so either I buy a property within 1 km and go for balloting, else forget about it.
C : Clementi Primary school, which is 1 - 2 km if I uses my mother hse address but rating dun seems better as compare to Jurong School, feel a waste to registic my girl there since we stay within 1km, if morning section, will have to wake up very early but very convident for my mother to fetch her after school, even got CCA, also easier to manage.

I have two choices of schools. One is a quite popular school as every year needs ballotting for applicants within 1km but it’s over 2 km from my house and ny son can go in 'cos I have finished 40 hours PV.
Another one no need ballotting at all but just next to my housse and now I hesitate to where to put my son 'cos it’s more convenient and the school next to my house last year also has 6-7 students of PSLE over 260. Not bad, right? -

Hi Adam, can I assume that when you say balloting is needed at within 1km, you meant it is phase 2C?? The point is since you have done your PV duties and would be eligible to register at phase 2B, and if you don't mind the travelling of >2km, then by all means go to the \"better\" school. Unless distance or some other factors act as a deterent.I have two choices of schools. Since you've already done the PV, why not stick to that school. After all, I'm assuming you are not living that far away from the school - to me, around 5km is still very doable. Just register there in Phase 2B and you can still decide if you want to pull out in Phase 2C for the school that's nearer your house.I have two choices of schools. At the end of the day, you have to weigh all considerations carefully to decide what works best for you. Distance, popularity of a school and past students' results are just some of many considerations. Good luck!
