I would choose RGPS, despite having no affilation.
May I ask why? -
tankee:
Maybe SCGS provides the right crowd to meet the right rich guy.
Not easy to be a rich tai tai.
First must be able to mix with the right crowd so as to meet the right rich guy, then must be able to attract that rich guy & get him hooked.

The rest is up to the individual.

As you said, maybe the focus/culture in both schools are different...

Heard there is etiquette class for girls in SCGS. -

save the parents' money from having to send them to those 'protocol academy\"
but i will still choose RGPS, given the chance -
My girl is currently in P1 in RGPS. My niece, P6 in RGPS. I must say I am pretty amazed at how RGPS goes about their curriculum. Especially when compared to my friends who have kids in NYPS, PHPPS, Cath High, HPPS.
During the P1 orientation, I remember the principal extolling parents not to put their kids through tuition after tuition. And I did wonder if it is going to be a situation where the top honcho says something but the downline sings a different song.
My friends called me asking if I am getting tuition for my P1 gal and asking how I coach her, does she have any homework, and whether the teacher call you just cos your kid scored 80+ instead of 100 for tingxie. All I can say to them is as at this moment, DD does not have much homework, I do not see a need for tuition, I do minimal, in fact almost no coaching, and I have yet to get any call from any teachers even though DD did score below average in 1 of her topical tests.
I checked with my Sis if at upper primary things are different and according to her, my niece even at P6 still does not have that much homework, amidst all the news about how the school holiday is no longer a holiday, there was no compulsory need for my niece to return to school during the holidays. All school holiday programmes are optional. And she did not have any tuition until she was in p5 and even then only for math.
After hearing all the things about how parents have to coach the kids, some even expected to teach ahead of the school syllabus, the amount for homework the kids bring home, the subtle and not so subtle hints that they get to give their kids tuition, I am actually pretty impressed by RGPS.
That said, this is only my experience with my P1 girl and with cross reference with my Sis whose girl is in P6. Others may have a different experience. -

you pretty much summed up the experience of my kids from NYPS, not pressure cooker nor piles of homework...thankfully they took up more CCAs , else they would be really bored
not sure your friend's kids in NYPS are in which class though -

LOL you are a joker man. Yes I have heard about this....just a joke for you : (hope the parents of SCGS girls don't slam me)
\"convention\" has it that SCGS girls end up becoming rich tai tai, living a tai tai lifestyle, and main occupation is 'shopping'. Heard some teachers asked their your charges :\"what is your mom's occupation?\" and quite a few answers are \"shopping\"
while RGS kids graduate to become cold corporate bigwig and spinster
lol .... rofl ..... -

The experience of a friend several years ago was quite different. In her case, she felt that she was expeted by her DD's teacher(s) to teach her DD in advance of the syllabus... anyway, in the end, they transferred to another school.
I have heard that the test papers in RGPS are quite tough, which implies that standards are high? :?
