Yes, I've done a noble decision...to give up my daughter's place to give someone a chance be in Pei Hwa. HaHaHa.
Given Pei Hwa's committment (although non-guaranteed), the school will try to take in all the kids whose parents did PV.

Pei Hwa is a good school, no doubt about that.
We wrote in to the school, called the school to enquire our application to be PV, got rejected and then chosen again to be PV. At Phase 2B, our hearts were still thumping away worrying when the confirmation will be known.
I asked hubby if he's serious NOT registering daughter there, after all the hours and hardwork getting into the school. He gave me the same reply each time - NO regrets. Just apply the experience learnt to coach daughter. -

Frankly, IJJ is the more discerning mum here when it comes to her girls' education. I wish I could be just as decisive and firm. Looking at my no. 2 who is the more artsy one, sometimes I do wonder whether PH will be the right fit for her? However, I know, out of convenience, we'll probably register her in the same school when the time comes. Hmm...like not very fair to her...haha...
No lah, I am sure you would likely do similar if you were in my shoes. :lol: My child's CL then was inordinarily errr.... behind. :lol: My first child did not have most of her preschool education in Singapore, hence her lousy CL. If she had been in Singapore for entire K1&2, I guess I would not have placed her elsewhere. PH was and is still my top choice considering the Christian environment and academic achievements. Now after 1 year of transfer into this school, my child loves the school even more and this love positively inspired my #2. :lol:
I guess my 2 younger ones would end up in PH when their times come, which I suppose I would not want to go through unnec round of P1 reg in another school. Ain't I bias?

I kudos Janet for making such decision. Not easy esp you have gone through one round of heart blobbing P1 registration years ago. Thankfully, you have another good school to fall back on. I am sure your children will appreciate all your thots and efforts even before they start their formal education journey. -

Pei Hwa is a SAP school ie Higher Chinese and English being first languages. I’m having problems getting my daughter to learn her 听写 this term, and she is not the type who is academic inclined.
True, at the end of the day, all kids sit for the same PSLE exam. But if the focus of the school is striving for academic, my daughter is not one who can fit in well. She will have problems with HCL.
But if she goes to a school which uses Chinese as 2nd language, it’s easier for her. I don’t think my daughter will be suitable in a SAP school and I don’t want her to hate school. Surprisingly, my son has more interest in HCL and adapted to the culture in Pei Hwa. -

probably u should not worry too much abt your daughter's tingxie struggle. my son's Kindergarten never had spelling or tingxie. he even had difficulty READING the list of chinese characters he was supposed to learn in K2. but at PH, he is able to cope with HCL so far. -

I will not encourage my son to continue with HCL, but it’s choice if he wants to.
As for daughter’s 听写, I don’t push. After all, she is still in K2 and still considered not formal schooling yet. -

When we were registering #2 for P1, we were deciding between Beacon n PH. Now we are thinking of transferring him out of PH. Not a good fit.my second one is also the more artsy one. hmm... seems like this is a general trend or what...

I did consider transferring my son out of Pei Hwa, pref to a school which has an affiliated sec. Not successful doing so as these schools already have a high wait list.
My daughter will not and nor will she be able to fit well into Pei Hwa culture. It’s not worth the try doing so. She’s not the artsy type but character wise very strong. Like what you mentioned, not a good fit. I totally understand that.
At the end of the day, all kids will sit for PSLE…the same exam nationwide. But when a school strives on pushing its students to score A*s as well as 6 years of pressure is not for every child. I pity my son actually. -

I think it does make a different. IMO, overwhelming stress can kill a child's curiosity and hence their interest to learn. It all depends on the match between the child and the school. Some children needs to have that extra bit of challenge to spur them on, while others may find it hard to cope.
Generally, in Singapore, I find the stress level for even primary level education is a tad too much. Not like my time, I still get to enjoy my childhood in a more silly fun way. Studying did not take up too much of my time for me to enjoy the sun and the stars. -

I believe you are a daddy.
With a boy already in Pei Hwa, hubby knows and feels the pressure children face. Since we know Pei Hwa culture and school expectations, we will know whether our younger kids will fit in. Son is already a ‘guinea pig’ since we don’t know anything as he is first child.
We heard SAP schools are not easy - HCL and Eng as 1st languages. It’s only after these few years that we truly know and understand the pressures of primary school education in SG.

During our time, we get to enjoy ourselves after finishing our homework everyday. Assessment books ? Only 1, from Jan to Dec. My son has to study his spelling/dictation, 听写/默写 on weekends. -

I went thru my primary school education in a blur-blur state... :whut: Before I knew it...I had gone thru everything just like that and now going thru the system again with my kids...How come nothing seems familiar? :lol: Times has changed...
