If it is due to food allergy, TCM may not be suitable as it contains too many herb that may aggravate the symptom. But can try "tui na". Normally for young kid I don’t prefer accupuncture.


I had read somewhere omega oil is also good for eczema. I tried, it help to minimise the symptom. As mentioned before I was allergy to certain food. It will caused me itchy. So after taking omega oil for a few months and I still taking it daily just one tablet in the morning. I can feel the improvement. Normally if I unknowing ate food contain them, the itch will last very long. However, now the itch will just last 3 days to a week. DH has eczema on one of his hand with dry and scaly skin, NSC also prescribe steriod cream but don’t help at all. He also start to take after seeing my result. Now the hand look normal and it will outbreak only DH understress.

Do you try different type of bath for your ds. Like my ds need to use bath with moisturiser, if not the skin will be very dry and itchy. Hope this can help a bit.

But DS2's rashes seem to be a build-up sort of reaction, so maybe it's like what you said, can last for a few weeks.

He can't take any fish/seafood products, not even fish oil. But I give him flaxseed oil. Hope that will help. He's skinny enough already.

How is your boy now? My dd also has very bad eczema, and the skin prick test showed dust mites to be the cause as well.

How has the miele been so far? I'm considering either the rainbow or miele. Read the same things about mould and leakage of dust from the rainbow, but not sure if those refer to older models. Would prefer the miele if it is effective since i think having to lug the rainbow around may be a deterrent to frequent use....

Few months ago, the rainbow's sales girls got my HP # from my friend who's using Rainbow brand for many yrs (her's mum used 10 yrs). This sales girl came to my house for a free cleaning demo


When she was doing the demo, I was :shock: that the machine's water contained the dustmites. Especially my mattress (almost 8 yrs) the water turned milky....... :faint:.

After her demo, I was tempted & she keeps persuading me to buy....... :slapshead: She told me can trade in the old vacuum cleaner to buy the rainbow machine.

But at the end, I still decided not to buy cos the the price is so ex.

Till now I still think Rainbow is good.

actually Rainbow was the first thing we tried after the kid's allergy test result. Rainbow is very well-known leh! But we didn't see any good results, in fact his scratching got worse. To be fair, I think his itch has more to do with food-related allergies than dustmites, but since we didn't see any difference, there was no point throwing so much money at the machine. I have no doubt it does suck out a lot of dust, but what I read on the net was that the dustmites are recycled out again and if you don't clean the bin out thoroughly, you will be breeding more mould etc.

You cannot see dustmites with the naked eye - they are microscopic in size. Maybe you saw another bug?

I am sorry to hear about your daughter. I know how tough it can be on the whole family. My son is much better now, but we believe it's more due to diet than dustmites. On days when he takes food that are on his off-list, he will still flare up, whether or not we have vacuumed. That said, I am happy with my Miele. My other child has sensitive eyes and the vacuuming has helped him. Let's put it this way - I've not read anything bad about the Miele regarding dustmite allergy (which was my goal), and I get peace of mind at a price I feel ok with. When his eczema flares up, it makes the detective work easier knowing that dustmite should not be the main culprit - despite what the allergist said.

One useful thing that we did pick up from the allergist was to use antiseptic on his broken skin, not antibiotic cream, because of its chronic nature. If it's very bad, clean it with antiseptic solution three times a day. Another doctor helped us with secondary fungal infection which is hard to differentiate from normal eczema area, and can be found in most chronic cases of eczema. We could see that when the skin flared up subsequently, a particularly stubborn patch was resolved for good. So we knew that patch was fungal infection. However he couldn't help with the rest, and only by eliminating food allergens did we see a very clear difference in a relatively short time (about 3 weeks).

My DS2 also had allergy. Every morning when he wakes up, he keeps sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. Brought him to see doctor, and the doctor said maybe dust / dustmites caused the allergy. I never vacuum my kids’ pillow and mattresses. Only air them under the sun… So, need to vacuum them to clean the dustmite out.

I wanted to ask you, what model of Miele vacuum and how much did it cost you? thanks a lot!

I’m using Delphin. They do free demo and currently is giving away a free small pot. You don’t need to purchase their vacuum cleaner to get the pot. I will put a bit of Dettol in the water and use the machine as air purifier. I still have the contact number of the promoter…PM me if interested.

thanks! it is a great great relief that something is finally working. Some mums were also telling me about enzyme therapy or probiotics and I think I will also look into that to hasten his recovery.

Sunning the pillows help to control the dustmite population, but it doesn't remove their droppings which is the thing that trigger the reaction. For that you need to vacuum or wash (hot-wash to kill them). Otherwise use anti-dustmite covers. The guidelines we were given is to vacuum mattress/beddings at least once a week.

They have a promotional set for their 111th anniversary. That's the one I got. It comes with HEPA filter. It cost just slightly over $500. I also bought a add-on powerhead to use for sofas and mattress. The total is slightly over $600.

I'm quite thin and too tired to lug a heavy thing around, and I find this manageable. I use it every 2 days. All of us hate the sound of vacuum cleaners, but this one has 6 adjustable setting, and if I use the lowest 2 settings which is sufficient for the floor, it's very acceptable to us.
