little doggie:
Hi little doggieAnyone have kids in PCF @ BLK 661B, i have registered my son there for 2010 under N2. Wonder how is the teacher and centre head there.
thnks!
My son is enrolled there too. 11am to 2pm. Which session does your son attend? How do you find the teachers so far? Miss Alicia Lim is his form teacher and Yue lao shi is the chinese teacher. There is another assistant teacher that goes where help is needed I think. The cook and cleaner are nice ladies. The children greet them when they come into the class!
The centre head is a Malay lady, pleasant and patient. I find that the teachers are more of the firm, no-nonsense type, more object than people oriented. What do you think? I don't mind so much cos my son needs a disciplined environment, too much fun at home!
Cheers! -
Hi Huskies,
I had my son transfer to BLK 662B, 11am-2pm in the end, cos previously i had heard good review on this BLK 662B and it is nearer to my house.
Can i know if the form teacher the same from the start. Cos mine changed abt 3 times since beginning of this year! Sighz wonder if i have made the wrong decision to transfer him over to BLK 662B.
His school uniform still outstanding 1 set and i have heard children not receiving any of their order uniform at all…so chiam rite. -

Hi Little doggie
Yes 662B is the original one with the good reviews. 661B adopted the same curriculum from this year cos under same management. My son only started on July 1 but I remember seeing the same teachers when I registered him in April this year. His uniform was given to him a week later cos the P had to order. So far so good. I was wondering if theres any chance of going to 662B! Hmmm... grass always looks greener on the other side... -
Anyone have children at Punggol Central Blk 231 ?
Looking at the link http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/preschool/files/kindergarten-profile.xls
This centre is charging 300.00 for K1 and K2, is it true ? What so special about this centre -
my kid used to study in pcf until we put him to a fullday cc recently. reason of changing is coz of caretaker issues. can tell that the ccc’s curriculum is harder, but more comprehensive. and the teacher actually did go through all the exercises with him.
i was surprised to receive the comments from the teacher about my child in the current cc. the teacher asked me whether my kid has ever studied b4?! my kid was wif pcf for 1.5 yrs b4 we transferred him over to the current ccc in K1 recently. she compared my child with those in the class and told me my kid could not recognise many words…cannot say correctly from 1-25…cannot count maths properly! i dare not even say my child was from pcf as i didnt want the ccc to label him and judge him right from the start.
looking back,my child was still at pcf, the teacher never once commented that my child was facing any kind of learning problem. i also now through this incident realised that the work and exercises done by my child and which were returned to me when he left the school were just some useless sheets. the teacher most of the time, did not go through everything in the exercises, answers wrong and they were not corrected. some of the exercises i mus say, were "anyhow done" without proper guidance.
i guess one of the reasons could be due to the size of the class whereby the teacher was unable to give attention to all students. but the fact that my child cannot read reallywell unlike his current classmates took me by surprise. this is something i overlooked on my part, for not testing his reading ability.
but these comments about my child really worries me! i can only blame myself for choosing the wrong school. i know some people think pcf is at the lower end as compared with other schools, but i never thought it would be that bad and that my child’s progress will be so badly affected.
is pcf’s curriculum really that hollow?
should not all schools be having similar standards in their curriculum?
has anyone who transferred your child out of pcf to another school also is also facing a similar situation as my child now? -
DS1 is also at PCF. Last year when he was in Nursery I did not find the school curriculum lacking. Also I taught him at home, so I wasn't too bothered by what he was learning in school
. This year I noticed that he does not seem to be learning much more than what he already learnt last year. I was also told that his Chinese is very good, though I think he does not recongise that many Chinese characters. Last month, I took some leave and gave him intensive coaching in Chinese. The improvement was noticeable enough for my DH to comment. I will not switch him to another school/CC because he's already familiar with the teachers and classmates there, so I do not want to cause any disruption. I will pay more attention and put in more effort to coach him at home. If you are willing to spend time and effort, I'm sure it will make a difference. :celebrate: -
oh dear, is PCF kindergarten really that lousy? I’m still considering to sign up DD for kindergarten cos I heard they are more academic-based. Can any other mummies comment on this pls? It’s so impt to ensure the child has a good solid foundation from the start. So choosing the right kindy is very impt.

Actual PCF not that bad lar, my DS was in CC for N1 to N2 when i transfer him to PCF starting from K1 and the teacher in PCF ask me how come he still cant reconigze his own name not to mention he still don't know how to write .
What i am trying to say here is PCF will have at least the basic standard to follow and prepare the children for P1. -
To be fair, i guess standards differ from PCF to PCF. This applies to private preschools too. Parents have to do their own homework and observations. And all parents have different expectations and all children have different learning abilities. In addition, most crucial, the teacher quality differs from centre to centre, (even within centre).
With the latest annoucement on changes in P1 focus, all pre-schools need to relook at how they shld adapt accordingly. Not just keep giving more worksheets and worksheets, spelling and tingxie which is ridiculous. No value added to the children learning path. What we want is creative, confident and keen learners.
By the way, my gal is in private preschool.
