hello! i just registered my son in HPPS under phase 2A1 also.
Any parents with past experience here can tell me what they do during orientation?
Sigh, i planned an overseas holiday with the extended family (26pax!!) but now that holiday clashes with the orientation!
Wondering if i can give it a skip ... or should i back out of the holiday.

Different schools have different prientation program. You can probably get some ideas from this thread: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1414

Hi cody
Last year during orientation, the newbies will join their respective class and will head to their classroom after some performances. They get to meet their teacher and a tour of the school.
The parents stayed in the hall and attended the talks by the Principal and Vice Principal, couple of heads of dept...they cover what is Stella, showed some slides and such. At the end of it, there are some booths for parents to register their kids for ECCAs (enrichment co-curricular activities) organized by the parents' association, but you dont have to rush to do that. In any case for P1, ECCA and CCA are not compulsory. More infor will be provided subsequently. Likely you need time to review with your kid and also if it fits into his/her schedule etc.
If you decide to go ahead with the tour (which I certainly think so!), perhaps you can pick up the orientation booklet from the school, I think there's sufficient information in it to get your child ready eg what to pack for day 1 for the first few days. Dont worry about your child loosing out...they will settle down alright. -
Thanks Gwen and Big Devil....
For any new applicants who are interested, 2010 Orientation for 2011 Primary 1 cohort is on 22 Nov (Mon).
I called the school, this is the ONLY day for orientation.

Gwen, was it also during Orientation that the school had uniform & textbooks sales, school bus arrangements etc?
Thanks again! -
It's registration process already... still remember the stress we had last year...
Hi, HPPS parents... I need some advice. My daughter is currently at P1 and i'm thinking of going to work. Is there any student care provided by the school or at least in the school compound? I dont feel comfortable to have a maid at home and unfortunately no grandparents around to help us... please help me...
P.S: I saw some posting here mentioned \"DS\", what is \"DS\" here?
Thank you

Nope. We were given another date last year to go buy the books and uniform. As for school bus arrangement, you can go to the school website to get the link for school bus and you got to look for the school bus yourself.[

What I did was that i ordered the books online, you can choose to have the books deliver to you or collect the books at a few collection points. For the school uniform, you can go to BiBi and Baba located in Scots (the same building that house isetan scotts) and get them. Bring your kiddo along so you can buy a better fit one. -

i don't think there's any student care provided by the school or in the school compound. I wished there's one too.
