Congrats to your kid on the distinction !! Well done !

Didn't realise that they still have to audition for SSAC as well. Thought exam results and teachers' recommendations would be sufficient. Will be a pity if not to continue on to SSAC, ya think? If you/he decided not to proceed with SSAC, would encourage to still go ahead for the audition and \"get the kick\" of being selected  Wonder what'll be ave % of \"drop out\" from JSAC to SSAC due to workload or not selected etc.

        Thanks.
drop out rate used to be about half, so I hear. But now, it seems that they may put more through $$$

There is a Junior Original concert coming up. This features original compositions from the students, both piano and electone. Sometimes, a few surprises do pop up; e.g. one year, a Chinese Orchestra group actually performed a student's composition!

Do bring your kid - it may just inspire them to compose.

Definitely. I don't have the details yet - will check out with Yamaha in his next class.

Recommending you this song テルーの唄 from you-tube - - very beautifully sang though I do not understand a word. It was my kid's first JSAC piece - and his grandma's favourite tune.

              Enjoy!

                very nice!

just found a youtube video on the recent original composition by a SSAC student

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9QBxBz5d3w&feature=related

This girl was featured on one of the TV programs about kids learning music. The live performance was much better than the video here as you can 'feel' the music.

Yes, her song is very catchy and memorable. Caught DS playing her song before his class starts and his teacher commented,\"you should be practising on your own compo\" 😜 This song won her 2nd prize in this year's Electone Festival. After watching the performance, DS exclaimed, \"I'll be there (on stage) next year\" !! That's inspirational enough for me as a parent 😄

Thanks for sharing - missed that 'cos DS down with fever then ;-< Do post if there's another one coming.

We're going however for the Yuki Wada performance tmr - free ! though you need to get the tickets from Yamaha.

& thanks for the well wishes ! All JSAC kids have good hearing to start with anyway 😄 likewise for yours I believe. I find it important to develop their hearing when young - - playing/techniques can be picked up subsequently but apparently for hearing, I was told that once you miss the 'golden age' it's hard to train. So I particularly like the group class when they are being exposed to new song each week - - totally amazed at their ability to identify the motifs, instruments types, major/minors etc. Soon they will be so \"well tuned\" that it's like second nature to them whenever they hear any piece of music ! That's my idea of music appreciation alright !
