Just discovered Bedok South market (where Hill St char kway teow is now located) has a prawn noodle stall. Prices from $2 to $3....huge portions, soup is nice and traditional type. Long queues though.

IMO, this stall's standard has dropped........
in the past, the soup is rather \"thick\"
but on one ocaasion i had eaten, the soup is so diluted
or isit their std is inconsistent??? i dun know........

btw, this stall only serve the prawn noodles soup in the daytime till (ard 4.30 or so or when stock runs out)
in the night, it's the fried hokkien mee (fried prawn noodles).....very nice too and also long Q........

ooh thanks. I always wonder about the fried noodles. Anyway, my current fav is still Wah Kee at Pek Kio. My sis had the $8 version…there were I think 4/5 big big prawns; and $8 give you free pack of tissues. The auntie looks very stern but is actually very nice and chatty…just a matter of getting the right timing.

Pei Kio's closed for renovations!! I went and was disappointed to not eat my favourite prawn noodles. 😞

Pek Kio is actually Cambridge Market near Owen Road and business has already been resumed (went there last Sat). Actually, tried the prawn noodle there but still prefers the one at Beach Road (opp former Plaza Hotel).
saw on CNA today during a rerun of a local program, that there is a stall in Adam Road Hawker Center selling a bowl of prawn noodles at a shocking price of S$25 each.

It comes with a HUGE prawn, almost 10-12 inches long. 😐 And said that the soup is very tasty.

I think it's just an advertising gimmick by the stall holder or CNA. If wanna eat huge prawns, wouldn't it be better to eat at seafood restaurants, especially since a bowl comes at a hefty price of $25?

My fav is still Jalan Sultan Prawn Noodles at Geylang Lorong 3. Near Kallang MRT. At $4 a bowl, my cravings would be well satisfied!! 😉

true........ same \"theory\" as mine,
if wanna to eat huge prawns, shd go to seafood centre or other chinese cusine restaurant
why order a bowl of prawn noodles and pay at a price of $25.
the reason for eating prawn noodles is the soup that i long for.....
reasonable size and fresh sea prawns such as \"sha luo xia\" (sha luo xia is esp for prawns noodles) will be just nice........
Heard it from my wife who says the market vendor mentioned the best prawns are the slightly smaller than medium size ones. The meat will be most tender. Is it true?? Think about it, even those seafood restaurants normally served poached medium sized prawns, right? Can someone verify?

oh good!!! going to get my fix soon!! the Beach road one is quite different in taste, I think.. I actually like both... I like the broth for the PK one!!

The prawn noodle at Cambridge aka Pek Kio is reasonably priced. If want to eat a shiok shiok bowl of soup prawn noodles, order a $5 bowl…sure can satisfy the crave.

heh heh, I just had that this morning, but only $3 portion. $5 too sinful for breakfast. Those who haven't tried before, it's garlicky and spicy (they put garlic and chilli even in the soup. But very flavoursome...quite different from Beach Road/Jalan Sultan types.
