My son has been called by RI for Half day selection test on coming Saturday- 24 July. He applied for Mother Tongue - Chinese domain.

Can anyone say what kind of questions / test paper to expect?

Is it MCQ or composition writing? Is there any Oral?

I specifically request students like Ruyu, Almighty and others who have attended the RI Half-day selection test to give at least a few words of guidance.

My boy and I will be most grateful. You can also PM me if you want.

      Thanks to all of you.

        MOE Hater:
        PowerPuff Mum:

I find it rather unsettling that the MOE does not intervene...this time clash is just not fair for the students nor their parents applying for DSA in these various schools.

Even to this stage when the students has proven that they good enough, they still are put in this very difficult position of having to make a choice. Sending the kids from NUSH and the to RI is crazy! The child will be totally depleted by then.

guess as parents we don't hv much choice but to help our kids make the right choice.

They are popular schools, so they try to make dates and times clash so that less pupils attend. I don't think they like marking hundreds of DSA scripts. Besides, if the your case is that RI/RGS and NUS High clash, to put it bluntly, it's your fault.

As you are child , I will not be entertaining your immature rebuttal. You need time to grow up and be enlightened.

You ought to have thought of this sooner, applied to RI/RGS earlier, taken an earlier GAT, so if selected the camp would be on 10th July. That's all.

I just ask if all emails for 2nd round are out, did not ask specifically which domain, but they mentioned that they are going through all those not selected during the past gat test.

Hi, new to this forum though I have got help from all your valuable posts many times in the past πŸ˜„ My DS applied for DSA in RI and got Jul 9 for his GAT. Then, he promptly fractured his right hand on Jul 1 😞 Asked for a later date from RI and he was assigned Jul 16. SInce his right hand is in a cast from armpit to thumb, he had to do the shading with his left hand. Was very frustrated, but got the happy news today that he has been shortlisted for the half-day selection test on July 24. He has applied under the Maths DOmain. ANyone can help with what exactly will they be testing him on ? Time is 2.30pm- 4.35pm. SHould he be expecting Olympiad type of questions? Will there be enough time unlike the GAT where they had to complete sixty questions in twenty minutes !! As his writing hand is still out of action, we are just a wee bit anxious about how speedily he can write with his left 😐 Thanks in Advance

Children tend to see things in black and white , and find it difficult to look at things from others prespective.

Could something be worked out for your child?

your child has done well under the circumstances

the math domain test has a number \"out of the world\" type of questions, in terms of styles and difficulty level, beyond APMOPS 2nd round and RIPMWC 2nd round type of questions

                  they are out to kill

do try your very best, no fear !! (all candidates feel the same way)
My DS aspires to be a doctor. Any idea if NUSH or RI is a better start to this route?

                    GoodMorning Ykiasu,

First of all...Double Congratulations!!!!Give a big treat to your brillaint Son...

I'm too young..just taking my PSLE this year. But, would like to share some facts i gathered from my seniors. Hope it'll be useful to you.

RI - Strong - if your DS is an allrounder. (Including Eng)Cut-off mark to enter using PSLE is the highest.Ie, Higher u are in the rank among others, the greater your chance of winning a seat.Exposure to shine in CC is outbright.Like if your son is a very good debator... then definetly RI will clearly expose his talents to a greater extent.

NUSH - More emphasis on Science and Maths. Not too stressful.Students must be very strong in group discussion, Should clearly outshine others in their group during the camp interview so tht they get selected to their final round..which is a Powerpoint presentation on some science facts.
Very much interested in science and MAths only...then NUSH.Cut- off mark to enter using PSLE is slightly lower than RI.

To be very frank, i din't want this situation of yours to be given to my parents. So, i outrightly said NO to NUSH- DSA. Now i'm given an oppurtunity in RI (Waiting for my domain result ) I think i made a wise decision. If i dont get thru now..(eventhough I have done my best...)let me try using PSLE. Either RI or NUSH will be waiting for me...Rest in GOD's hands....
Good luck to your DS!!! Think and Make a Wise decision.ITs your Brilliant Son's future!!!!

it seems like..... oh well nothing
GoodMorning to all,
I have been studying this forum for quite sometime.Just registered myself now to just share my personal opinion on Forum Posting...
As pasted here... There are few students (to mention Ruyu and MOE hater)who seem to be posting w/o courtesy...I really appreciate students like Almighty and Sun_2010(not sure whetherSun is a student) who wanted to correct them thru replying them politely...Even after studying them i can see ruyu, commenting Almighty in a harsh manner...Like \"it seems like..... oh well nothing\".Almighty has expressed her/his opinion in a clear manner..n Ruyu comments in such a bad manner???? :x and the best reply Almighty gave is to ignore such comments...
There are students who are like Ruyu and MOE Hater and some good mannered students like Almighty!!!!
Please children...Learn to respect others ,(Including their feelings)Learn to be more courteous!!! IT will definetly move you to higher positions and places...
Good Luck to all !!! πŸ˜„

                      Hi Kiasu_2010,

I used to admire Ruyu for his smart inputs in this forum. He even started a whole new thread asking others for inputs for his RI DSA attempt.

But all I wanted was a few inputs from Ruyu (and other such students who have attended the RI Half-day selection test in Mother Tongue Domain) about what to expect, since my son is appearing in Mother Tongue-Chinese-domain on 24 July.

I was surprised that Ruyu has not replied (nor any other student).

All I want to say is - "Dear Ruyu and other P6 students of this forum, we all wished you well and posted what all we knew to help you with your DSA attempt. To be fair, should you not tell us what to expect in the Half day selection test? Receiving and giving should be a two-way process, is it not?"

Sorry if you feel I am wrong in seeking such inputs. My best wishes to all P6 students still remains. As parents, we may be β€˜kiasu’, but we all have a broad vision to wish the very best for all students.

                      Thanks.
