your child has done well under the circumstances

the math domain test has a number \"out of the world\" type of questions, in terms of styles and difficulty level, beyond APMOPS 2nd round and RIPMWC 2nd round type of questions

they are out to kill

do try your very best, no fear !! (all candidates feel the same way)
Thankyou for that piece of information. No use sweating then, let him do his best. There is always PSLE to fall back upon.

And thankyou ptnttsg ๐Ÿ˜„

I am always touched by the sincerity of other parents who support, encourage, share smiles and tears in an uninhibited way ๐Ÿ˜„

Very unique to this forum, inspite of its name!

Hi again!

My son will also attend the HCI DSA selection test on 24 July. Besides GAT, there will also be English, Chinese and Maths tests.

Can anyone please share on what type of questions the student can expect for the English, Chinese and Maths tests at HCI?

Thanks.

Hi ptnttsg and vlim,

I greatly appreciate your perspectives. But we are definitely not harsh on the kids. We just request them to share since we had shared so much with them (especially with Ruyu who asked so many questions on DSA, on GAT and other issues).

We are just reminding them that sharing cannot be a one-way street. Is it being harsh or reminding some simple morals?

Hi Pateras,

Thanks for sharing what info you got from RI. My son is also writing the Half-day selection test on 24 July but in Mother Tongue - Chinese domain. Let us hope that the kids who have appeared for Half-day selection test on 10 July share with us at least a few tiny winy bits of info.

All the best for your ds and for all students trying for DSA.

Hi tiger262,

Best of wishes to your boy, too!

GoodMorning Ykiasu,

First of all...Double Congratulations!!!!Give a big treat to your brillaint Son...

I'm too young..just taking my PSLE this year. But, would like to share some facts i gathered from my seniors. Hope it'll be useful to you.

RI - Strong - if your DS is an allrounder. (Including Eng)Cut-off mark to enter using PSLE is the highest.Ie, Higher u are in the rank among others, the greater your chance of winning a seat.Exposure to shine in CC is outbright.Like if your son is a very good debator... then definetly RI will clearly expose his talents to a greater extent.

NUSH - More emphasis on Science and Maths. Not too stressful.Students must be very strong in group discussion, Should clearly outshine others in their group during the camp interview so tht they get selected to their final round..which is a Powerpoint presentation on some science facts.
Very much interested in science and MAths only...then NUSH.Cut- off mark to enter using PSLE is slightly lower than RI.

To be very frank, i din't want this situation of yours to be given to my parents. So, i outrightly said NO to NUSH- DSA. Now i'm given an oppurtunity in RI (Waiting for my domain result ) I think i made a wise decision. If i dont get thru now..(eventhough I have done my best...)let me try using PSLE. Either RI or NUSH will be waiting for me...Rest in GOD's hands....
Good luck to your DS!!! Think and Make a Wise decision.ITs your Brilliant Son's future!!!!

it seems like..... oh well nothing

I find it rather unsettling that the MOE does not intervene...this time clash is just not fair for the students nor their parents applying for DSA in these various schools.

Even to this stage when the students has proven that they good enough, they still are put in this very difficult position of having to make a choice. Sending the kids from NUSH and the to RI is crazy! The child will be totally depleted by then.
guess as parents we don't hv much choice but to help our kids make the right choice.
They are popular schools, so they try to make dates and times clash so that less pupils attend. I don't think they like marking hundreds of DSA scripts. Besides, if the your case is that RI/RGS and NUS High clash, to put it bluntly, it's your fault.
As you are child , I will not be entertaining your immature rebuttal. You need time to grow up and be enlightened.

Right PowerPuff Mum, MOE Hater has a lot of growing up to do. Children tend to see things in black and white , and find it difficult to look at things from others prespective.

GoodMorning to all,
I have been studying this forum for quite sometime.Just registered myself now to just share my personal opinion on Forum Posting...
As pasted here... There are few students (to mention Ruyu and MOE hater)who seem to be posting w/o courtesy...I really appreciate students like Almighty and Sun_2010(not sure whetherSun is a student) who wanted to correct them thru replying them politely...Even after studying them i can see ruyu, commenting Almighty in a harsh manner...Like \"it seems like..... oh well nothing\".Almighty has expressed her/his opinion in a clear manner..n Ruyu comments in such a bad manner???? :x and the best reply Almighty gave is to ignore such comments...
There are students who are like Ruyu and MOE Hater and some good mannered students like Almighty!!!!
Please children...Learn to respect others ,(Including their feelings)Learn to be more courteous!!! IT will definetly move you to higher positions and places...
Good Luck to all !!! :D
can i ask you were you soo perfect when you were a child that you can complain about this children.are you soo perfect that you can complain about children. A few comments is not definate that the children are very well disciplined in life. This forum is not life. You cannot judge their behaviour beacuse of their posts.Do you have any idea how will kids feel when they read your post. What if you child was in this forum and he was accused of bad behaviour will he/she feel very happy. what if a child who gets sad for even the smallest things read your post and susided and put the blame on you? Are you some kind of physchic or something to figure out what ruyu ws posting without him even completing his post? Do you know nick vujicic? He was born without limbs:both arms and both legs. He could have complained to god why he was born like this. But he did not.He took life as a challenge and won.You cannot say children are not prefect by their posts. No one is perfect. You cannot expect them to read a guide on proper forum rules before posting. I can see that you are not perfect. You just complain. On children some more. Give them a break, they are not as free as you posting about them. They have work to do too. So dont go about accusing children i am uterly angered by your post.

Some interesting questions I gathered from my son from his recent "Reflection and Response Task" (HCI DSA) and RI (GEP domain) interview:

1. What is success to you?
2. What is leadership to you?
3. If you are able to replace a subject in the primary school curriculum, which one will you replace and why?
4. What improvement would you like to see in your primary school?
5. Have you applied to another school? If both schools make you an offer, which offer will you take up and why?
6. What do you know about our school values? (So please do your home work before the interview.)

Do be prepared to answer impromtu questions. For example, a boy wore a "star pupil" badge and was asked to describe what it was and the selection criteria for this award.

Not sure how useful my info will be. There seems to be very little discussion on DSA through GEP domain. Neither was I able to provide the info earlier because my sonโ€™s interview date was really late even though we had made the online applications as early as May!

I have just joined the forum myself and have not contributed much. There are people like mathsparks and others who shared their info generously and others who do not. For those who don't reply, I don't blame them or bear a grudge. There's no compulsion for them to share just because they asked for help before or they have gone through the experience, although it would be nice that they do.

I am grateful for any reply and I don't think anyone is obliged to share if they are not comfortable. The kids are undergoing a tremendous amount of pressure during this period. Let's not be quick to judge them. As parents, we also have to remind ourselves to be polite when asking for help too. ๐Ÿ˜„

Ermm, though I'm not sure what's brewing between the various forummers, please be reminded that we would like to keep this forum friendly; we don't want it to become hostile like some oher forums where every post is attacked and rebutted senselessly. Chief has created a wonderful platform for all to share and de-stress, so let's strive to keep it that way.

Having gone thru this stressful period myself last year, I fully understand the anxiety that kids and their parents are going thru'. Please calm down, and give your kids hugs and kisses for having done so well and coming so far already.

If you're a kid, aunty mathsparks thinks that you guys should hit the books already eh? Don't wait till the dsa is over, it'll be too late to catch up and prelims are round the corner.

PS: I remembered mentioning I'll share the dsa interview qns, well, just so you know, I didn't decide not to share, it's just that I rem son might have signed the non-disclosure with TLL and it wouldn't be right if I dug out his notes and post it here. Sorry, k? for those who waited.

My son will also attend the HCI DSA selection test on 24 July. Besides GAT, there will also be English, Chinese and Maths tests.

Can anyone please share on what type of questions the student can expect for the English, Chinese and Maths tests at HCI?

Thanks.

Hi Pateras, how are u able to make it for both? I tot HCI is full day from 9-5? Heard from frens last year tat HCI was really brain draining and a test on a child's stamina to go thru different test and end the day with a interview.

Hi YKiasu,

HCI has its test from 8am till 2pm. RI will start registration from 2pm but will start its paper at 2.30pm. It will be a mad rush to get from one place to the other. To any parent who is facing this predicament, I spoke to HCI today who advised such parents to tell the HCI teacher-in-charge that they will need to get their sons out by 2pm to rush over to RI. I also spoke to RI who advised that parents should try to get their sons to RI by 2.30pm latest.

By the way, can you please find out from your friends what type of questions were asked by HCI last year? For example, for English, were they grammar or vocab or comprehension or composition writing? For Maths, were they Maths Olympiad type of questions?

Thanks for your help.
