      Gingerbread Man:
When will balloting be held for phase2B?

      Phase 2B2
For a child whose parent has joined the school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 July 2009 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 June 2010; or whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the school; or whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader.

Registration: Thursday 22nd July 2010 and Friday 23rd July 2010

Announcement of Result: By Wednesday 28th July 2010

Need to check with the school what time they conduct the balloting.

        Dear Bigfoot,

It is not true that no one has ever withdrawn from CHS after registration.
When I balloted a couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to have 2 additional places for balloting because some people have withdrawn.

Perhaps it is just luck but there are always people who "buy insurance" first and withdraw after they get into their school of choice.

Also, there are people who live so far away and eventually the kid could not take it after a few months. Some parents do not realize that travelling tires the kid out.

I don’t know if this helps, but CHS is very proud of their dancers. Their dance CCA obtained "Gold with Honours" without fail during every SYF. If your kid has gymnastics or dance talents, they might be eager to accept you.
This is only my guess, you may want to check with the school.

Lastly, good luck to everyone tomorrow !

Just to share that number of applicants we see for CHS may not be showing the true number who are qualified for P2B. Here is the example.

          School CHS
No of qualified for 2B could be 60. But bcos the cutoff of the no. of qualified applicants is at less than 1km the others will just withdraw or don't even bother to apply. So the school could just show 20 applicants for 2B.

Within 1km - 20 applicants <-- cutoff here and balloting only conducted for this category
          1-2km - 20 applicants <-- rejected
          more than 2km - 20 applicants <-- rejected

          School XYZ
Say the school has 50 vacancies but 60 qualified applicants for 2B and the distribution is as follows. The school will show the number of applicants for 2B as 60.

          Within 1km - 20 applicants <-- accepted
          1-2km - 20 applicants <-- accepted

more than 2km - 20 applicants <-- balloting only conducted for this category

            Dear Cherrygal,

I thought you are within 1km of both CHS and Ai Tong ?
Yes, why leh? I am 1km of both, but Phase 2B for CHS, and Phase 2C for ATS. All very slim chance...think if my son has to go to MS, I will move to Tai Keng to lessen the distance travelled... but will miss this location very much coz so convenient...food, shops

LOLz ... when our kids started going to St Nics (NO balloting in phase 2B that year - so v v fortunate!) and CHS, we lived outside 2km. They never changed schools. Girl continued to Sec 4, and ds1 went on to sec 1 in a school even further away even tho now we live quite nearby!!!! haha!!! And of course, St nics moved away from us. :x

I think any performing arts talents would be appreciated, bc these are not easy to groom within the school itself. Violinists, cellists, chinese orchestra, etc. Good performance in academics certainly.

Do note that if manage to transfer a child in p3 or p4, doesn't mean the younger sibling will get a place either, unless at p1 registration, lah. If younger sibling is like p2, they school won't guarantee a place as well.

Honestly speaking, if we get asked the same question a couple of hundred times a day, I suspect most of us will turn sullen when asked the same question yet again πŸ™‚ Let's not label a school as being elitist based on their response to a certain question πŸ™‚

Agree with Chief. My experience with CHS has been pleasant. I started emailing CHS as far back as June 2008 to check my eligibility under 2C using S&P for uncompleted properties. I asked the same old question yr after yr (kiasu !) until recently as my son is due for P1 registeration this year. I even called the school n spoke with a Mdm Woo n another Mdm Goh. They helped me assess my chances n advised me to register my boy at SJIJ 1st under phase 2A2 to guarantee a spot. Both were patient n even empathetic.

So in all fairness, CHS is not as arrogant as some may think. So chill ok?

I think they have a lot of paper work to be done since 96% of the places were taken up before 2B and that may be the reason they are very busy. The enquiries usually go to admin staff and whether the school is elite or not has nothing to do with them. They are working people just like us.
