Bingo :salute: our 1st choice for DS is to go Catholic High if really he cannot meet the cut off to IP school... still prefer \"A\" level cert after reading some write up from RI. We are staying Woodlands so far sign... Hum... \"would you go for the school as in your real heart choice because they produce good O level Result or distance still counts lei ???\" Great school out there like Victoria - produce good \"O\" level results but too far for north pple. Parents / pupils give more feedback seriously - esp Catholic High please :?: very important to make 1-6 choices ...sure will faith when time comes to put in the school name :stupid: lei since DS need to be real independent leow :dancing:

JMHO.
It all boils down to your son's choice. If he's heart is with a school, he would be motivated to study hard to get into the school. It also boils down to personal preferences. Of course, distance would be a considering factor, but not one of the most important.
For me, I would like to go to NJC in Bukit Timah, but I live in Sengkang(North East). The trip there is 1 hr, but I'm okay with it.
If the school you want is far, and your son wants to go there and can accept travelling long distances, than I think its okay.
After all, Singapore isn't really big.
However, If your son doesn't want to go into that school that is in your heart, you shouldn't force him. He would study better in a school he likes than in a school he is forced to go (which he doesn't like).

Frankly, it is rather hard to think of approciate choices b4 taking the PSLE exams....
prob after the exams, u may have a better indication of the range of marks that yr son will get
what u can do is ....discuss with yr son which schools he likes/or had in mind
and make a selection list based on the range of T-score
such as if the t-score is between

250-258
240-249
230-239.....etc

He has been there a couple of times to do enrichment send by school cos his English is pretty strong :!: :idea: however just not that group with powerful maths background. Times spend on reading but not doing maths lor No news for GAT result no chance to show off his language power :roll: hahaha

affiliated to JC means that from the 'O' Level result of L1R5 aggregates, can deduct 2 points

eg : from Anglican High or St Margarets', if L1R5 (1st Lang + relevant 5 subjects), total points is 11 for the 6 subjects, then can deduct 2 points from it and deemed to be 9 points for admission into SAJC, which is affiliated to Anglican High / St Margaret's, under the Anglican Church of Singapore

Hence, if the kids can get into IP school, (well and good, 1st preference), else \"must\" get into affiliated secondary schools with JC (2nd preference) so that can gain 2 points advantage

Since the emergence of IP schools, it becomes extremely difficult to get into top JC like HCI / RI / NJC .....cut off points for 'O' Level graduates in recent years are as low as 3 points for L1R5 .....

SAJC affiliated to St Margarets', Anglican High, etc
ACJC affiliated to MGS / ACS etc
CHS affiliated to CJC
VS affiliated to VJC ? VJC still trying to get approval to run own IP program ?

Temasek JC also started its own IP program.....

hey, i have been thinking about this recently ie if ds can’t get into the IP schools, then what are the other alternatives? i stay at Toa Payoh. the better schools around here will be Catholic high and St Joseph. But what holds me back is their affiliation. they are affiliated to CJC, no offence here, but i would prefer that he goes to a better jc. Victoria is affiliated to VJC which is a good JC to go to but problem is, it is the east. not sure if i should enrol him into Victoria which is better if i think long term…then again, VJC is quite far away too:(
