Yes, Janet. My older boy is the "guinea pig" too. Now I keep telling the younger one to build up his foundation in Chinese in lower primary when the workload is lighter.

Brenda, I wouldn't dare think too far. My mindset is such that if daughter can secure 10 years in CHIJ, the rest is up to her. In fact, if she wants to go to another secondary school, then it's fine with me. Work harder.Hi Janet
We are the same too. Therefore next year when dd choose the Secondary School we have to take into the consideration of those have an affiliated JC.
Doesn’t worry too much as I’m sure your experience gain would definitely help your DD and your persistent would bring your DS to reach up to the next height. :rahrah:
At 15/16 years of age, she should (hopefully lah) be mature enough to decide for herself whether she wants to go JC or polytechnic.
As for my son, I will continue to motivate and nag at him to get his work done...hopefully within these 2 years, his inner motivation will mature. -

maybe government, e.g. MP should start to send their kids to neighbourhood school to convince us that all schools are the sameosakachan:

Last year PSLE top scholar is from a no-name neighbourhood school. I thought that is sufficient proof that neighbourhood schools also can produce good students ?
I think in the future more and more top scholars will come from neighbourhood schools, also because the kids of PRs are much more driven compared to local kids. -
We feel so fortunate to have this website to learn more about schools, balloting etc etc. This website offers so much valuable information that I wish it existed way back then. Maybe it did, but I have no knowledge of.
Parents are kiasu, but that's because we are made to be such. Ok lah, maybe some parents are overly kiasu.

I heard from my hubby that he has a friend who sends his daughter to 2 kindergartens...morning session and then afternoon session in another kindy for more exposure to Mandarin. -
In my children’s kindy, there are English class (where the main teacher is English speaking and CHinese teacher comes in for a short period) and Chinese class where the form teacher is Chinese speaking. Some of the kids attend both classes ie one in AM & another in PM.

We can be kiasu, but not to the extent of sacrificing our kids' childhood.
We don't want our kids to accuse us of robbing them a happy childhood when they grow up. They may not be grateful to us.
Kids need to spend most of their time playing freely and daydreaming -

Firstborn usually 'guinea pigs' but then they get to enjoy parents' attention as compared to their siblings. We learn from mistakes made with the firstborn and then improve with younger kids. Lower primary is the time when foundation must be strong, when it is still easy. It's just like building Lego. -

I used to be very kiasu…I sent my twins to a so call top school and got them transferred out during Mid year in Primary 1 as I do not like the teaching and discipline style of the school…
I am not looking back since I put my twins in MONTFORT JUNIOR SCHOOL and they are doing fine there.
As my twins happened to be in the top class, we got the best teachers…
Though my twins are not doing well only in Maths, I am not blaming the teachers as I can see the effort that the teachers pumped in.
My twins are having morning remedial starting from 630am daily and some afternoon remedials as well. We are also currently doing top school prelim papers…
Hence, it really depends on who is the teacher your child is getting…TO me, its no longer the ‘brand’ of the school anymore… -
