anyone knows if 10 aug is a sch hol? Was told by friend who is a teacher that the day after national day is typically a school holiday across all schools.

Yap. It is a School Holiday as stated on the Calendar too.

okie, looks like everyone is clearer following yesterday's briefing by the school...wonder why they didn't conduct this briefing much earlier in the year though. :lol:

R all SHHK's sch following this format? We r not 1 of the 16 pilot sch in MOE list rt?

We r not 1 of the 16 pilot sch in MOE list rt?[/quote]Not sure if the other SHHK school follows this format..i suspect not coz the way the principal puts it like a \"quiet revolution\" - doesn't sound like its for all And i don't think NCPS is one of 16 pilot schools either

Can parents share how was their P1 orientation experience like? For eg:
1) What is the duration of orientation? From 9am-12pm?
2) Did the kids take any ‘tests’?
3) Buy books, uniforms on the same day?
etc etc

ok, i shall attempt to recall - seems like a long time ago although it was only last dec...other parents, please feel to correct me :lol:

The orientation took about 2 hours, i think; Upon arrival, we will go to the hall and the parents will sit at the second half of the hall, while the kids will line up behind their temporary class number at the front part of the hall. when the formal programme starts, the kids are brought to the respective classrooms while the principal and teachers will brief us, coupled with performances by the other levels kids.

i really have no idea what happened in the class except that my kiddo told me that they have little games on maths, and teachers spoke to him both in eng and mandarin - conversational style.

at the end of the programme, the kids are brought back to the hall and dismissed accordingly to us.

the purchase of books and uniforms/shoes are done earlier coz the students are to report for the orientation in the school attire. during that time, the PSG will also do their 'recruitment' of the members, and there aer exhibitions on the various alumni activities that you can consider signing up your kid for.

Do you remember how the school informed you regarding when to purchase books and uniform? Through letter posted to your address? Wasn’t aware that they have to wear uniform already on orientation!

There will be letter and book lists sent to us regarding dates for completeing the Pupil Data Forms and Giro form , buying school uniforms ,books and files. There was serveral dates given to buy the books till 22/12 (According to my previous date)

U can buy it first now during school time before the school holidays.Just for the uniforms, shoes ,socks and name tags( Have to order in advance, 6pcs $4.50)

There is also 2 courses organised by Nan Chiau Alumni Association during December. They are the Basic Phonics, Reading and Comprehension, Hanyu Pinyin.Optional but advisable to attend this courses (Have to pay for the fees, I remembered is around $80 or $100 for each courses.

I gave my Dd own foods during the 3-day ($3/ for food cater,optional)as it was given Green tea and Pandan cake.

Oh yes, the eng & chinese enrichment classes - think it was for 10 days. i too enrolled my kiddo for it - not so much for enrichment or revision. for me, had just wanted that opportunity for him to get used to the school environment - the classrooms, toilets, fellow p1s, wearing of his uniforms etc - as well as to warm his 'engine' up for formal classes come jan :lol:
